Boring practicality question for Octy VRS owners

I have had my black magic MkI vRS for 2-3 months now, rather like it, the turbo makes it feel faster than I suppose it is, now I wouldn't mind a bit of remapping but mine's used-approved so I believe i'll have to wait another 9-10 months :(

I like the seats (coming from a 306, most interiors are nicer in my opinion), though last night brum-london i couldn't get comfy, and I need to clean the carpets properly!

It does, aye. Unsure why, perhaps as its more 'sports' orientated rather than luxury as the L&K. The green clocks look nice at night however, nice and bright.
I'm just too picky. Well too picky for my budget anyway :o A vRS with black L&K interior and I'd be a happy bunny :D

Don't get me wrong, the pace of them is more than adequate, just not as quick as I was expecting. this is probably more due to my expectations rather than anything else. It just didn't feel like there was an extra 105 horsies pushing me down the road compared to my 306. I really needed a test on proper roads without a worried looking car sales man and my gf sitting next to me :o

hehe yeah I didn't really get to go above 40 odd when i test-drove mine. All small roads and the like, only the few spurts in 2nd gear on boost that made me grin like a goose. That clinched it then, which is a bit silly I dare say, but i'd read a load of crap about nearly every car i liked before going that route, so it was a pretty safe bet!

Although, it may be my motor but sometimes it just doesn't seem to boost 100%, say in 2nd gear most times you put your foot down above 2k and BAM it flies off, other times it feels like there's an anchor slowing me down, or a really fat animal in the boot. Will get it checked next time i have a chance i think!

I know they are billed as the sports model but 180bhp in a big car isnt going to set the world alight. You really need the remap to wake it up. I can hear a nice chuff from the DV now as I change gear.

Yeah I'm after a mk1

Go for it. My aunt had one when I was a kid; would swallow four bikes.

Penski you little rascle, you know what I meant.

The big problem I'm going to have is that out of 6 cars that I've specifically travelled to see only one of them was in a condition that I would consider buying... and that was borderline. Therefore I'm very weary of trecking around the country trying to find one. Locally there is one near me, on 02 plate... just over a grand over book price

Could be a long wait I guess :( What really annoys me is that I was in two minds about going for one just up the road from me a few weeks back. Really wish I had now

I own a vRS too, I think it's due to the ride height / engine noise and how solid the car is. Keeps up with some pretty quick cars to 100mph- or so I heard.

View it anyway - remember book price is the average price for an average car..

Perhaps the one near you is the minter you've been waiting for?

Don't say that :p

I've always said, I don't mind paying top dollar for the right car but I'm not sure I could sleep at night paying that much OTT.

Then again, could I sleep at night having splashed out on a less than perfect car?

My gf is sick to death of my car buying crapness but even she summed it up last night when she basically said- "you've waited to treat yourself to a new car. Something that was pushed back to buy the house, make sure its the one you want and not just a compromise." and she's right, it is something I've been working towards and waiting for, for about the last... ooh... 7 years or so :o. Whilst in many ways the vRS is still a compromise for me its by far *** best of my realistic bunch (to me anyway)

I guess its worth a look. Problem is if it is mint and I still decide its too much money that will then become the yard stick that I measure all the others by.

As I said before - I suck at buying cars :o :(

I see, for that price though Id expect the car to be A1 - top tyres with lots of tread, FSH, check the brakes all round for wear etc...kerbing on alloys and whatnot. Also condition of interior.

Its well worth holding out for the perfect car. Sure it might take a few months but the ownership experience is is so much sweeter.

Just as a comparison I paid £5k for a Magic Black 51 plate vRS with 58k on the clock. Pretty much brand new tires all around and in immaculate condition.

They do seem to go for a lot more though...

Hmmmm... well they say they will take offers. If it went the right side of £6k by a few hendred quid and it was perfect, it might not be such a bad deal.

Stuff it I'll give them a call after work. Even I don't mind a 6 mile round trip if its a waste of time :p :D

EDIT- to your list liverpool lad at that age and mileage I guess I should add Cambelt and water pump into the list?

I bought a Rally Red 51 plate last week in Mint condition 47k on the clock, cost me £5300 - had to fly to Edinburgh to get it though and drive it down to Nottingham. Cracking car, its only my second too.
