Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Hi all.
I have an issue, the answer was posted in this thread somewhere as i forget were it was.

When i put the roof up and all the windows come up once the roof is fully up i get a problem with the drivers windows going down.

Like i said somebody posted a fix couple months, can somebody help please?;)

I have had this with both of my Z4s, I have just ignored it as it happens very rarely.

I'm exceedingly anal over my paintwork but there are two things that I have come to accept and, as such, don't bother me too much: Stone chips on the front, and stone chips on the wheels.

Bigger stone chips can stick out with darker-coloured cars but I've had good luck using the likes of Chipex to make them far less obvious.

Has that indent on the bumper actually deformed the plastic or just grazed the clear coat? You can probably sort it yourself if the latter. I had a random piece of what looked like fibreglass sheeting fly up off the road and bounce off my car last year. It left nice big scuffs on my A-pillar, door mirror casing, and the door below the mirror. An hour with some 2000 grit and my DA polisher later and you'd never know.

My wheels were refurbished a year ago and still look amazing when clean despite having a small handful of teeny tiny little chips. I'll worry about refurbing them again if the paint ever starts flaking off.

It has indented the plastic, but not grazed the clearcoat from what I can tell. I'll just leave it be and keep an eye on it, just in-case there is clearcoat damage I cannot see, and it starts to peel with weathering.

Problem with diamond cut stone chips is that they will look naff sooner rather than later as weathering gets into the finish.

If you want it to stay perfect don't drive it.

Ideal cat d barn find opportunity.

Got a close-up photo of the damage?

Oh yes, I forgot yours are diamond-cut. I'm so glad the previous owner of my old ST220 had the wheels refurbished in plain ol' silver. It's such a fragile finish :(

Have you considered or looked at paint protection film? http://www.paintshield.co.uk

As I was looking into it as I when I was due to collect my car, but I thought it would be cheaper to get the bumper resprayed as and when its required. I've now had a quote to correct a few stone chips and lets just say its probably cheaper to get this stuff applied to the whole car.

When I collect the new one, i'm getting the paint protection over whole the car.

The original stuff used to be awful, very obvious and dulled over time with UV exposure..

The more modern stuff seems quite good and considering how many chips my bumper has, when I get it sprayed I might just get it applied just because it's one area that really gets hammered..

I agree, thats what put my off to start with. However, after seeing it installed on my friends car, its completely imperceivable.

Looks expensive, more expensive than worth the effort on an old car surely?

Now that I look at the close-up, it does appear to have pressed into the clearcoat!

Now for some positive news!

A workmate is a regular at Thruxton and Gurston Down for the hillclimb laps. I'm joining him for next year's hillclimb and also Thruxton, depending on the event dates.

Also, BMW have asked if they can share one of my photos on their social network channels. I have said hell yes.

I see your point.

That would bother me. Yes its totally not at all noticeable from a difference. But as the owner you know its there ....
