Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

£900 for 4 tyres??! Is that what the seller told you or are they some special tyre?

Pilot Sport 4, Asymmetric 3, ContactSport 6. Either of those will be ideal. The PS4 would be my personal choice. All three sets will be well under that ludicrous price. You can get a full set for under 600.

Yeah thats what he said mate i thought it was a lot!
Whats your take on the part worns?
Cheers

He obviously pulled that figure from inside his butt cheeks. I'd be checking the receipts otherwise.

Don't bother with part worms. You don't know the life they've lived.

Sooooo, today was the day of my windscreen replacement. The chap arrived very promptly and was excellent.

When booking, I had only weakly put "please could I have a genuine BMW screen" in the little notes section on AutoGlass's website and as I had heard nothing more from them or my insurance, I figured this would have been missed/ignored but I wasn't bothered if I got a non genuine one anyway so meh.

So imagine my surprise when he said that he had got a lovely genuine BMW windscreen to fit! He dismantled everything brilliant, took his time and was very careful. Everything was going swimmingly!

...

Until he fitted the screen. It was clearly obvious that although the screen was lovely and genuine, he had been supplied with a seal which was a pattern part. The result of this was that the seal doesn't fit 100% and doesn't sit flush around the top corners of the windscreen. Great. There's always got to be some complication doesn't there?!

He called his office who will be getting the genuine seal and the guy said that the whole job will have to be done again as a result. FFS.

That is a good result despite the seal trauma. I've got a screen with a nasty blue sun strip on the top on mine, it says RAC at the bottom corner.. I'm almost looking forward to it getting hit by a rock!

Classic Autoglass. They supplied the wrong seal for mine too if you recall back to early last year. They also broke my cowling and tried to "glue" it back together badly. That took 2 months to sort out with a new genuine one.

This has reminded me. I have just emailed them about getting my screen replaced with a genuine BMW one as the windscreen I have now is the second replacement. The first had a bubbling rain sensor within weeks, the current one has steadily been getting worse over a few months now. So now I feel I'm within my rights to request, and be given, a genuine windscreen because their ones are clearly not up to OEM standard.

Can you do that without opening a new insurance claim? You've had it on a good while now haven't you?

My RAC screen also has bubbling, but strangely my rain sensor works flawlessly. I guess I should be thankful for that..

I wouldn't have expecte dit to result in a new claim, since it's Autoglass's product that's faulty, not the windscreen itself having a chip or anything from a stone. It's up to Autoglass to sort!

Edit*
Got off the phone with Autoglass. It's with their customer services team who are going to confirm or decline OE glass and the job has been pushed to my local dispatch branch awaiting that decision. I've stressed that the seal is checked to make sure it's correct. The lady put notes to the CS team stating that this issue has come up twice before and it would be more cost effective to supply OE glass the third time round otherwise I'd just be calling them with a new warranty claim every 6-12 months at their expense.

Let's see what happens.

I quite like the idea of getting new glass every 12 months.. keeps it nice and free of any marks.. ;)

Mine was an autoglass screen, fitted really well, no problems initially but hey presto, a small airbubble under the sensor lens! not enough to stop the wipers working, but annoying none the less..

It has lifetime warranty of course, so you're well within your rights once it escalates a bit more :p

Result with the OEM glass though, who is your insurer?

Yeah, I completely didn't expect to get Genuine glass without some sort of fight (which I wasn't going to partake in) - result! Sheilas Wheels are the insurer :o

Luckily the guy I had fitting mine was excellent. He'd been doing it for 29 years so I think it's fair to say he knew what he was doing. He was careful with everything and nothing got damaged at all. It's just that damn seal. I'm even starting to wonder if I'm being precious about it and it was there on the old glass, or if the seal really just doesn't fit properly in the corners. Anyone else with an E46 coupe care to confirm/deny? Pics below. Any pictures of your own would be welcome for comparison! I can get my finger nail underneath it easily, whereas the rest of the seal is completely flush with the screen.

That does look like a poor fit.

Our seals are the same design, this is what mine look like:

The pattern ones can be a bit hit and miss some will sit really nicely and some will lift the corners. The use of the term seal irks me though, they're a trim piece they do not sealing of anything

Yeah the seal itself is the black gunk they apply to the windscreen frame before putting the glass in!. Do not get this on your person, it is murderous to get off.

It's definitely not right, Gaygle. Mine looks like mrk's too (although obviously without being immaculate..)

I'd have thought it would start to become loose after a short while if left like that to be honest.

But... you can see the press lines on my roof where the frame rests on it and has flattened the canvas when the roof is down  :(

That's something Renovo was unable to restore, that's only salvaged by replacing the entire roof. And I'm not that bonkers :p

Taking advantage of the current 25% off at ECP, I've decided to get my bushes all done. Here's what I've listed up so far, comes to £171 after discount.

Does this look ok quantity wise? Subframe I wasn't sure about.

I might add engine mounts to that as well as they wear over time.
