Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

I've never used a touch interface in a car that was worth using. The MX-5 (Mk4) has both touch and an i-Drive style controller, and only one is ever used, and it isn't the touch screen.

Hard buttons/controls and proper haptic feedback win every day of the week IMO.

Same in my CX-5, the i-Drive esque controller was excellent and the only reason for touch was address input on the Sat-Nav.

However, the NBT screen does look a little out of place and obviously expensive.. I'm quite happy with my Navall headunit it looks oem enough, although I would like something a bit more supported in terms of android updates..

Isn't it really hard to use a touch screen and drive?

This is true, which is why I only do certain things, like traffic reports or sending a BEEP BEEP to Clown/NickX from time to time, or reporting a stopped car on the shoulder/mobile camera using Waze's easy to press buttons while driving.

Everything else is done via steering wheel controls, screen gestures or voice commands, so it's pretty easy flowing really.

Sad news, which probably leads to good news today.

Walking from the car I hear a thud, I figure it was the woman who had just parked next to me and that she'd slammed her door shut. But as she walks toward the ticket office she sees me and says sorry. I was curious as to why, so swoop round the front wing to inspect if she hit my car or something...

.... She did.

I call out the site duty manager so he is witness to initial exchange when she returns. She looked shocked that there's damage.

She says "it happens all the time!" referring to the damage, and I notice her door is littered with scuffs and dings at the edge. Had I not been there, she would have walked off and I'd have been left with with a dent in the wing and chipped paintwork. If it was the driver's side wing then I'd have just let it go as that's being replaced soon due to the rust anyway.

She didn't have insurance details to hand, but named the insurer, and at this point started to get a bit defensive going on about how her husband was killed in a road accident years ago and how she has to take a picture and so on and so on.

Anyway, I notified my insurer who forwarded me to Auxillis (who used to be Helphire IIRC?), they have appointed Banburys to repair it, and a like for like hire car in the meantime. It looks like she has notified her insurer and everything looks to be standard fare.

What a farce.

Take a look at just how wide she opened her door:

I know a few bods at Banburys, and they do excellent work. They inspected the damage today and said they could easily repair it, and that they would also re-apply the same ceramic coating afterwards.

The good news is that the paintwork is then guaranteed for five years, so if my passenger side wing begins to also rust...

Got any pictures of the damage?

I bet you the passenger wing will be properly rusted away as well underneath. So a free replacement. Unfortunately get ready for your insurance premiums to have a nice loading on them for the next five years. I've got this years insurance coming around - with my non fault accident declared it is £454, without it declared it is £340. It was going to be even worse last year but I thankfully wangled a deal which meant it wasn't anymore.

Wtf? Was she the size of a house or just utterly stupid?

Small old lady in fact! She tried to blame the wind, but it was only gently breezy. I know Renault doors can be light, but come on...

That better not be the only picture you took.

Also partly your fault for not parking further away!

I did, but the daylight pics don't show the dent very clearly, the bodyshop took their own photos under shade, but here are a couple of mine:

Diameter wise it's pretty small, but it is pretty deep and has gone to the metal.

This year my renewal came back cheaper than last year, but not as cheap as I'd have liked, so ran a few comparisons and got on the horn to Elephant who promptly reduced the renewal to match the comparisons saving even more. I don't think the non fault rear end added much to my premium really.

When they have the wing off I guess they will see what's what and if it isn't rusted on the inside, then all good, either way I have 5 years to play with and get a free wing out of it I guess.

Said mrk, never

You would claim on a fly's insurance for dirtying your grill if you could :p

They're hard to catch alive

Who doesn't love a double D?

Well, since you put it that way...

Petal bits from trees that scatter cars in the area, we have a number of big trees nearby that shed them. They are moist, so stick to the metal and glass. They are no bother,.

Parking space is a pick up and drop off area.

So insurer's understanding of like-for-like needs re-defining it seems :p

This is what I collected today, all 2100KG from their "Prestige Sport" category:
