Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

I've been in the E92 and while it's more modern design inside, I still think the E46 cabin has a more nicer direction to the quality of materials used. The doors are heavy, the door handles inside have weight to the pull, the seat backs are padded and not hollow plastic, the plastic sills are all smooth and solid instead of scratchy light plastic - List goes on.

Definitely agree with you there. My E92 interior was disappointing to say the least.

Stay away from the F30 then :(

:( They should have looked back at the E46 and E39 interiors. I love my E46 interior. Whilst the rest of it is rusting away the interior still looks so fresh. I gave a lift to someone at work the other day and they couldn't believe the car had 131k on the clock as the interior has held up so well over the years.

Glad it's all going well, the joys of buying a lovely example :)

Tomorrow I'm coding the Bi-Xenon flasher mode in exchange of the default E46 Halogen = flasher, and also a few other bits (walk me home duration, triple indicator, additional comfort access and lighting stuff etc).

Are you coding them yourself or getting someone to do it? If yourself, can you do E92s? I have electric folding mirrors but they don't fold on lock/unlock, willing to provide tea tokens if you're able to do it :)

Just to add to your point about the interior on the E46, I took the drivers door card off the E53 to get at the door carrier and I couldn't get over how heavy it was.
Not that weight means quality, but it just reinforced my opinion of that the interiors of that era of BMW was a high point.

Have you tried holding down the lock button? That folds the mirrors on mine from the factory.

I gave that a go without success on Friday, but I'll admit to not having really had the chance to play around with it so it could be operator error. Will try again once the car's back on the road and I'm using it again.

I have the cable and laptop software but I also have the Android app so for the quick coding stuff I used the app (BMWhat). Seemed to work alright:

^That feature is cool but it also flashes the Halogens if the Xenons are on. Naturally it flashes the Halogens if the Xenons are off so I'd like to be able to tell it to not flash the halogens if the Xenons are on - If anyone knows of a way to do this that would be great!

I've enabled the roof open/close from the fob too and disabled the power windows cut off if the door is opened and the window is half way opening/closing (so annoying!) among some other stuff mentioned earlier.

Of course more modern lighter materials can also be stronger than older heavier ones but yeah in this scenarios the extra weighty-ness does add to the quality perception.

Also on my Dad's F10 you have to fold the mirrors with the key fob (hold down) for the mirrors to auto unfold when unlocked.

If you fold the mirrors from the interior button they won't auto unfold.

That looks exceptionally easy. The Bi-Xenons not flashing on the E46 used to really bug me, the halogens just didn't look anywhere near as good!

I had been messing around with the button to fold them in just before come to think of it, shall try leaving it well alone and then using the key fob, thanks :)

Yea, because one thing thats on your mind when flashing your full beams momentarily is how good they look
lol

It's useful for blinding the **** out of people though.

I think I burned a hole in some poor woman's corneas after she drove on the wrong side of the road towards me the other day...

It fills me with a warm sense of superiority when I flash my adaptive bi-xenon headlights to allow a peasant to come forth out of a junction under my command, doesn't it you?

The halogens will flash when the lights are off but when the dipped xenons are on the actuator in the projector flips the cutoff away for full beam mode. As far as I know, no cars tend to flash the xenon bulbs on and off momentarily when the lights are switched off.

I presume they want only this and not the high beam halogen bulb to flash too when the lights are on.

Personally I try to avoid flashing people to give way or say thanks, certainly when my lights are on. It's not pleasant to receive an eye-full of xenon.

Depends on the car but it's really not that much glare difference compared to just the halogen high beams flashing as per default setting. It's not like you flash people by holding the stalk back for a whole second or anything! At least this way when I now flash someone quickly and once only, they will see the momentary burst of instant light rather than a weaker quick fade in and out that may require a second flash, this has happened numerous times when the other driver isn't paying attention and I give them way.

Either way, it's active now so I'll just leave it like this. The BiXenon shutter opens and closes quicker than the halogens have time to fade in and out so a really quick flash is all that's required.

There is no extra stress on the Xenon bulb since they are already on when the shutter lifts.
