Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

So I wanted a sweet arse colour. I ended up getting a sweet arse pain in the butt, but I will live with it :p

Just be thankful that when you wash it it actually looks like you've washed it, even if it is for a short time!

I still maintain blue is the best colour ever. Looks brilliant when washed, but doesn't show as much dirt as black.

And let's face it "Estoril Blue" is the colour God has his car.

It simply isn't worth it.

This. It's already a great condition M3. Spending £1400 on it may increase its immediate value by a few hundred quid but in 6 months time it'll probably look like it does now.

I'd only spend that kind of dollar if: my OCD meter was really sensitive, or it was in a bad state and had been neglected for a few years or it was some piece of exotica and I had deep pockets.

My first two cars were black. I loved black cars. Until I owned them :( just too much of a pain to keep clean and even the smallest ding shows up.

Know what Gibbo, you're absolutely right. It does look ruddy good it does. I guess it's just the times I do wash it and start drying it off and notice the scratches here and there and the stone chips and go "oh no!".

Pretty sure everyone does this. I certainly know I do.
Especially annoying on a car that was immaculate when I bought it.

But, they are an unavoidable result of using the car every day - and they are only visible when you're scrutinising the paintwork up close, cleaning and polishing. So just see to them as best you can with polish and wax and then try and forget about them. Otherwise you'll end up spending you whole time avoiding driving the thing for fear of doing further damage.

If once I've cleaned mine I spot a little blemish, I just stand back and think "this looks awesome really".

Black looks ace when it's clean. Coming from a silver car, I regret nothing.

My XK was an amazing colour. Prism blue, in the sun it looked green, out of sunlight it was blue. Really liked that colour.

Everything else I've had has been black and yes a PITA to keep clean.

Alright alright I understand! Dark metallic is balls to keep clean and appreciate up close when aged :p I guess I do completely forget about it though when on the road and the right pedal gets a bit of movement :D

You own an E46 M3 now anyway, shouldn't you be looking for some kind of sick vinyl wrap or dat plasti dipz m8 :D

It did actually cross my mind a couple of times. But alas I shall not fall into that stereotype!

Like any other skilled trade sprayings full of good bad and so so

If o had the dough I would put mine to a local place but they start at 4grand for a full respray but their works top notch

My taxi is getting a full blow over for £400 and that will be to an acceptable standard for what it is

That said I fondly remember my teenage years respraying cheap novas in my garage with ruined down dulux gloss :)

Got some stickers, go me.

Spend the money on fuel and accommodation and drive it to the Alps.

If you just wanted it to look mint and good in photos and nothing else then you should have kept the 318Ci as it's basically the same thing to look at.
This. You can't see the stone chips from the driver's seat anyway. And that's the only place you should be when it comes to your M3!

"Can we get a ride in the M3??!"

Yes, yes you can.

That was around 7000rpm :p

Isn't this what sports cars are all about? Enjoying the drive and character of them, then sharing that with others? :)
