is it the end of your night if you don't get in somewhere? or are there a hundred other places you could go to? forget about it and move on. Some bouncers are tools, but seeing as there's a lot more punters I can assure you there are more punters that are tools.
Personally I'll rarely turn anyone away unless they're underage or obviously too drunk, and I will listen to reason and am prepared to change my mind, but that's me and it depends on how they react to being told they can't come in, I also have a lot more choice in the matter than many doormen as I'm trusted to manage the atmosphere at my pub or most venues I work at.
Leeds is no worse than any other city, it's usually a by venue thing, but even then they'll all have different profiles that they'll try to avoid.
A russian doorman I know, who's very good at the job but not the sharpest tool in the shed, started a new door where he had been told by the management "not to let any (n-word)s in", when a big group of black lads turned up he said "sorry, I've been told not to let any ******s in".
It can be doormen being idiots, it can be them on a powertrip or it can be poor management decisions, but at the end of the day, just go somewhere else, it's not worth expending any effort on it, and if you let one bouncer ruin your night it must've been a pretty crappy night to begin with.
