6 weeks to check all the evidence available such as question people/witnesses, gather expert evidence, review CCTV, boat GPS info etc sounds reasonable to be absolutely 100% sure the man wasn't guilty where deaths were involved.
However, the Police not telling people what the man was actually arrested for, allowing social media to run rampant with wild speculation, that has been seen as a massive mistake especially when combined with numerous other police/media "mis-handlings" in recent times all of which just continually add the overall narrative currently accepted that too many in the Police appear incompetent, irrespective of how how accurate that statement is.
