Villa are unlikely to break the big four because since they got high in the table they've adopted little team mentality. Spurs were just crap against Arsenal but they came to win, just failed miserably. Villa come to draw, or not lose against the bigger teams. In their best period , 1st half of last season, they were so good because they just attacked, everyone, there were a few losses but they were great. Then they got 4th, got Heskey, panicked and played defensive and didn't win in 13 games or something stupid.
THey are doing the same this year, against Spurs they went and barely got out of their half, they have a strong defence but their real strength is the counter attack, which they refused to push up in numbers in support for against Spurs. Yes they got the lucky early goal but sat on that goal the entire game. At Arsenal it was the same story, we weren't fantastic, Villa came to sit in their own half and maybe try and catch us on the break late in the game like they tried against liverpool, a superb Cesc performance knocked the stuffing out of them and when they tried to push forward, left themselves more open.
But you can't expect to move up with that small team mentality. When they invited the pressure Liverpool had the posession, but created next to nothing the entire game. THe second Villa started to press forwards, finally they were all over Liverpool and looked far more dangerous, its their unwillingness to play the whole game like that which will prevent them finishing in the top 4. Its a shame, if they played like they did later on in the game, I would have thought it would turn into a win for them.
Downing was terrible throughout though, awful delivery, poor closing down, no energy, poor passing, one great chance he was on the end of and shot at the only part of the goal it could be saved.
