Brake fluid

Fox i today have had a quote breakdown for my hugeomgservice with the brake fluid change coming in at around £45 from my local merc indi - and you know how obscene merc service prices are...

I'd check an indi at the very least :)

I'm sure it was only about 40 quid last time. At that price its not worth messing about but £72 is a bit pathetic really.

Even £40 is a **** take. Do it yourself and learn something "new and exciting" in the process.

My £45 for the change breaks down to the fluid being a tenner, then £35 for 30mins labout given a standard £70/hour labour charge.

The £75ish quote you have makes sense assuming their labour rate is approx £130-140/hour, which it could well be?

Its a fairly lengthy task to drain it and refil it all and bleed, that usually accounts for the costs.

BMW Labour rates are excessive as is what they charge for Brake Fluid.

:D

Just had £68 quote from Scothall and thats with a 50% labour reduction for having a crap old BMW.

there is no draining and refilling. they just flush the old through with new so there is no bleeding either

TBH i'd just use the indi at £48 if you cant find anything better, hardly a massive charge for something that only needs doing every 2 years :)

probably they just inflate the prices to try and turn people away since it's not much money for dealing with stinking brake fluid

I do track days a lot and personally would suggest Motul RBF600 from opieoils.co.uk

Issue with SRF is you need to get it to a reasonable temperature before you get a good bite - RBF doesn't need that. From cold mine are excellent, when warmed up they're something else!

Also would highly recommend you get something like Goodrich braided brake lines all round!

If you want to go the whole hog I couldn't recomend Carbotech XP8's more. Much better than Green/Yellow/Red Stuff etc

Have this setup on my Evo 9 and never had any issues
