Brand Spanking New Cars

No it's true the hours aren't too bad, but my maths isn't the best so I'm struggling a little bit. Great uni though.

Back on-topic, if you like the S2000, how about a civic type-r if you can stand the looks?
I ruled the Type-R out in the first post :p

Well with a product as highly regarded as a Rover, I don't blame you for looking down on manufacturers like Proton.

Hang on, don't Proton still make cars? Well thats them instantly one up :p
Proton never competed with Rover. They compete with the likes of B&Q and Homebase, dominating the UK shed market :)

The CTR is a very good and capable car, and insurable, unlike the S2000.

I dislike the use of crappy plastics and silver dashboard that scratch VERY VERY easily but engine wise, its fantastic.

Why have you ruled it out so easily? I can only assume this is because the new one is due soon?

Maybe becuase it's an annoying little hatchback with a plastic interior, screamingly annoying engine, MPV-style profile and according to you, awful build quality? :p

Just a guess :p

Others I thought of that whilst will cost to insure come in below you're 25k budget for a couple of years old.

Focus RS
Golf R32
Megane 225
Impreza WRX

All can be had for under 15k with the exception of the Golf which comes in at a little more, and I'd expect insuarance to be what, 2k?

Or another one which I think would be good, mk4 Astra GSI . Almost 200bhp in a good little car has to be fun :) Pretty cheap as well.

Nah, nothing to do with the new Civic - I'm not fond of that either!

I just.. don't like the Type-R. I hate the gear shifter position and it's just a bit too crazy-Jap for me :)

Meganne 225 trophy is meant to be a stormer, not many of them about either. Just depends on you're opinion of the looks, im a fan but i know many aren't

MESSAGE FOR PMKEATES !

Your the bloke who was considering a Rover coupe 220 Turbo.

I say get one.

Cheap as chips, nearly as fast as a speeding bullet, and you'll be different.

The other thing is, they are so simple, even someone not usually handy with a spanner would have too many problems.

Ive sold my other one on now, but since you want something fast and enjoyable, why not go for a really nice example that will set you back a FRACTION of what you are considering spending, AND give you arguably more fun than the cars you have considered thus far.

lol cant argue with that, just wondered why he'd ruled it out so fast after looking at Focus ST's and Astra VXR's which are similar cars.

Fair point though.

Yeah, it's me alright. Biggest mistake was not forcing myself to make the 1,000 mile round trip (It would have been quicker to travel to Rome!!!) to get yours, to be honest :(

The hugest problem with a Coupe Turbo is finding one. I went to see one last week and ermm.. it wasn't great. Despite eventually selling for £2,850, the only thing it had going for it was 47,000 miles. It needed 4 new wheels, a new wing and £400 of paintwork. With a Coupe Turbo I don't want a ream of modifcations as long as my arm but just a good clean one. I'm willing to pay £3,000 for what is the "right" one, but I swear it just doesn't exist!

Me and my stepdad were looking at that one!!

God, shame to hear it was so crap. I tell you, by the time I had washed/polished mine with Zymol and made the interior spotless, I didnt want to sell it. It looked 100% brand new. Ill put some pics of it up when I get them off my stepdads phone.

The guy who bought it off me was brilliant. Was older, but he know all about them, and its kinda his plaything/hobby. Its gone to a really good home, and it looks like hes gonna really continue to look after it.

It was emotional.

Keep looking, they ARE out there, trust me. You want to get a low milage one from an older guy, thats cared for it and wants something else that his wife will be happier in.

I think you want a coupe really! think of the character. Also I like the way the long winded full name sounds impressive.. i.e Rover 220 Coupe Turbo. Sounds like a machine.

You might be lucky and find a sensible/anal young person like me who was utterly obsessed with keeping it in mint condition, and tbh, I think the guy who bought mine got a great deal. Unfortunately, people only see miles on the clock......

Out of interest how much would you pay for a mint one with 17K on the clock!?

The ABI goes one stage further than that and calls them "Rover 220 Coupe Turbo I" - bit of a mouthful!

Not the £3,950 (If I recall correctly) you paid for it I'm afraid, but it would all depend on the very specifics of the car, although I can't imagine the general condition to be poor :p

Id keep looking mate.

Save the money, dont get finance, and still have one very respectable car that in the summer you can effectively take the roof off...

MG MGTF 160/ZR 160/ZS 180/ZT 190/ZT 260 V8? :)

You could pick up a mint example, last shape (with the much improved interior on the ZR/ZS), 06 registered for half of what you're looking at at the moment

Theres a clio 182 down the street from me in a nice blue with grey/back alloys, twin exhausts n that.Looks STUNNING! Nice and low and suits the wheels, not in the arches or nothing. I want one.

Theres also a megane 225 thats parked up where i work. That looks good aswell, twin exhausts big alloys but the front....sticks out a wee bit too much but it looks badass. Also sounded stunning when one drove past a while back.

I'd go £10k on an E36 M3 and use the rest to run and insure it OR go with any of the above. Newer cars would be better for repairing compared to a 10 year old bimmer but you cant beat M power.Im in awe at the nice blue 4dr M3 round here....its sexy when the guy revs it up the hill when he picks his kids up from school :(

Anyway, highly doubt you would get insured for the E36.I would say the clio as the megane may feel a bit big n lazy. ;)
