Brand Spanking New Cars

In my opinion you should wait till you're at least 21, have some NCB and insurance becomes cheaper and thus, opens your options more.

You will find nothing worse than getting financed on some car only to later get fed up of it, regret taking out the finance, wish you'd bought something else and get lumbered with negative equity.

If I was you I'd look at getting something used, there are some real bargains to be had, you probably just don't see that at the moment as they're out of your reach insurance wise.

My insurance limit is very high for someone of my age - even the majority of Group 16/17/18/19 cars are not out of reach. The only things out of my reach are the seriously fast cars that cost so much to run, I wouldn't bother with them at my second hand price point anyway!

Eh? You can't even get insured on the ST or VXR?

Oddly, though. As has been said, 230HP RWD cars, 260HP 4WD cars etc. are fine. Just seems to be something not liked about the ST or VXR :p

you said the 350z was out of your range too though?

You might want to check quotes on confused.com, It sounds like you've just tried admiral, but you really need to check as many companies as you can, as they all calculate risk differently for the same car, confused is a start, they check a fair few companies, and seem to come up trumps for me lately.

As for your budget, I'd be sticking to year old's that've taken the biggest depreciation hit.. but the world is your oyster.

Some more random cars - insurance is too high, but we all like to dream..
1. TVR T350C - £22K for a mint second hand one - 4.4 to 60 and 185 flat out....
2. VX Monaro - £22K

Are you sure the Focus ST / VXR Astra is uninsurable, group 17 doesn't sound too high..

No one is quoting less than around the £5,000 mark for an ST/VXR - basically saying "Go away". The Admiral group of companies will insure drivers under 21 on some pretty high risk vehicles, including the likes of an RX-8 231, for very reasonable premiums. However, they seem to have a problem with the Focus ST or the Astra VXR.

that would be one serious insurance premium!

i thought 150c was 3.9 to 60?

what about a fiesta with a turbo charged 1.7 racing puma engine in it with N-o-s(dont tell insurance about this obviously)?

Thats what a mate did at 19/20

Thats the single most pathetic advice I have read in this forum this year. Sorry for being harsh, but that's just utterly daft.

what i suppose im trying to say is its fast would look nice and i think easier to insure than some of cars, but it all depends on the persons opinion
It most certainly would not be cheaper to correctly insure! Maybe I can defraud the insurance company with false information to reduce my quote, but I could do that to anything!

Besides, I wouldn't imagine it's that fast. You'd not be looking at anything much more than 200HP and you'd only have a Fiesta platform to try and attach that usefully to the road. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

Not sure if anyone has alreay mentioned this but what about a new fiesta zetec s? my parents have just got one and they look great. Unfotunately they wont let me drive it so i dont really know how it drives.

Did someone just mention a Fiesta Zetec S in the same thread as an RX-8?

Apologies if I've missed it mentioned already, but have you actually checked that you can get £25k worth of finance?
