Bottas really doesn't seem to have any fight in him. I wish we had Rosberg back. At least he would put up a fight.
Completely agree, Rosberg was a total tool but atleast watching him and Ham fight it out on and off the track (and the bickering in here) was thoroughly entertaining. Bottas I find uninspring, boring and his performances completely forgettable.

He said that the engines weren't running the higher oil limit and the FIA allowed them to run the higher limit anyway. So...

Now, I do agree with the above statement, however, that isn't to say the engine is designed to work best with a lower oil burn limit... it just happens to be able to withstand the extra force of combustion with the higher oil burn limit (for a short period). You only have to hear the team radio to realise that Merc can't run in that engine mode for extended periods. I can't prove it but I suspect other teams (Ferrari) began investigating the extra horsepower that comes with oil burning and found engines dying. Perhaps they were happy that the limit was dropped as it reduced the Merc quali advantage, or perhaps they were gutted they couldn't ride on the bandwagon.

Except since the change and since teams had to comply with the 0.9litre oil limit, it's Ferrari who have dropped off in power and reliability went to crap overnight. It suggests to me the only team using that much oil was always Ferrari and it was Ferrari who were hit by it because the other teams didn't have to change anything to comply with the regulations.

3 engines next year.is it worth sauber only competing in last half of season due to everyone else having penalties?

Nope, probably not because as Hamilton proved car gulf is so great that nothing can stop top 3 teams getting into the top 6 positions (or near enough)

Or Sauber could be smart, realise that while everyone else runs lower engine modes to last 6-7 races, screw it, go flat out like Ham did, get something stupid like a couple top 5s before anyone else realises what they are doing. Sauber ends up paying for 2-3 extra engines but due to a couple high early finishes end up a couple places higher up in the WCC.

The engine limit should move more towards the 6-8 engine mark and let them go significantly quicker. I mean it doesn't make too much difference either way, if they need to last 7 races a piece then lets say they all run 92% of max power, but that is same for everyone. If they need to run 3 races a piece they all run at 96% of max power. The only freak scenario is someone like Hamilton missing qualifying starting at the back and deciding to take a fresh engine that needs only 2 races on it instead of 5-6 races. That is a more significant benefit with a lower engine allowance but is situational, Merc wouldn't have taken a spare engine had they qualified normally with Ham.
