I don't think it's easy to manipulate at all. That's why it doesn't work for me - it just doesn't carry the aspects to make it funny. Sure, adding effects is humorous in itself but comedy needs more than that.

Yeah but you and I have seen BB so it's not so easy for a cheap canned laugh track to make us think it's a sitcom. You have to try and imagine if it would've been convincing if you hadn't seen it, and I personally can definitely think of sitcoms that weren't *really* very funny at all, they just made us think they were cause of the "markers" of the show as you call them.

Besides, BB genuinely IS funny in places, it's just a very dry, dark kind of humour, and it's really interesting how a laugh track transforms it

True, he is obviously trying to persuade Walt to work for him, but I think he really does believe in what he said in that scene. Why wouldn't he?
