For about 6 years i/we had to endure pulling people out of wrecks on average 3 times a year. Then we got our very own Scamera which reduced the accidents from 3 a year to Zero with not a Single fatality.
The Scamera was taken down about a year ago but the speeds were kept down by Signs & the previous placement of the Scamera.
Not any more.

As you can see i live opposite a Busy college & i also live 20-30 yards from a park entrance, There is Obviously residential parking to consider & it is the route to 2 local schools.
I had a busy day & no time to post this but yesterday at 8.15am this was about 3 doors down outside the nursing home. Looks like the usual clip the island & flip routine & i have no more details as yet. There is a bit of blood so don't look to close if squemish & lets wish the driver well, If Sober that is.

So i will be ringing the council today to ask them why the camera was removed & if we can have it back.
Those that know me will remember me stating that if ever there was a need for a scamera it is here & I myself am witness to its improvements in general living for local people in the way of reduced noise & the fact that it is actually quite safe to cross the road. We also do not have to pull wounded people from vehicles at any hour of the night or day or deal with the damage to our motors that get crashed in to.
BRING BACK MY SCAMERA NOW !!!! :D

are you like fireman sam or..?

didnt know them islands could cause such damage - bring back the scameras!! never thought i'd hear/see myself saying that

also, i think a certain word has been overused :D

:o Sorry i was in mini rant mode but trying to restore a rant from the revious day was to hard for me :p I will not use that word for a week as punishment.
No not a Fireman or a sam.

Think the car was a 207, What basically happens with the uphill crashes is the cars sit at the lights at the bottom then boot it up the hill past the parked cars you see behind old bill. Then they see the island late & clip it & bobs your uncles tranvestite auntie who has crashed your motor. This time they did a Proper job & took the pole out & flipped the motor.
I will investigate locally & see if i can get any more details.

Without it you would never be able to cross the road safely. There is one further up the road past my house that is literally on a bad bend. With the accident downhill they usually spit off the island then the high kerbs we have then pile into the row of 6 cars opposite my house. Makes a Hell of a noise when it happens & literally jumps you out of your seat, Before you know it you are outside pulling people out & helping. It's not nice.

I heard it was removed cos it kept getting torched and I think once even got stolen. Tbh I think there would be other solutions to that speed camera, I think better facilities for the cars that park on the road and cause drivers to move out would be of a benifit to it. Ah well we'll soon find out it'll be in the Hinckley times I'm sure...

Yes it did get vandalised & torched, One time it looked to me like somebody just took an Angle grinder to the pole & took the whole thing :p
We summised locally that some builder in a pick up had decided he didn't fancy that speeding ticket he had just got :p
Personally i don't care how many times they have to replace it as surely any fines can cover that cost or they could make it more secure. I honestly never heard a thing though & have never seen anybody messing with it whilst it was there. Mind you i never heard that black car above roll either, It must have happened in the morning as when i passed at 8.15am the lights were still on & the blood was wet.
Usually it happens around 1am after turn out & the cars end up outside my house on the other side of the road, I hear it well enough then i can tell you.

Thats the problem I think it was costing more to replace than it was earning. It was getting damaged about every other week. *Shurgs* its hinckley nothing gets done that should be they only care about a select minority.

Local elections are on mate, At the moment they all care :p
Something else i have to speak to the council about is all the spam mail I've been getting from these candidates. I don't get to much usually but since these elections it's gone Mental  + :D
I have to wait till I'm in the right frame of mind before i ring up though so that I am tactical & not larey ;)

It was probably removed because it wasn't making enough money. That to me looks like exactly the sort of place a camera should be, which will mean most people don't speed and so they won't put one there. Speed camera partnerships would much rather put them on safe roads where people speed (because it's safe) than unsafe roads where most people don't speed, but speeding is actually dangerous.

I had a similar discussion with the devon one about camera placement, it's clearly not about road safety, which is a real shame.

Looks like image shack is struggling, not seeing the pic though it seems to be loading very, very slowly, but by the sounds of it one of those traffic flow inhibitors (narrow lane with one direction having precedence) would be applicable here.

Increased pollution? LOL! But nobody cares about pollution when defending their decision to buy performance cars or when disagreeing with the congestion charge!

Increased pollution with no other provable benefits? That's the difference..

As for the congestion charge, it doesn't work, even TfL are now admitting it

http://www.abd.org.uk/speed_humps.htm

statistics can say what they want - people don't do speeds at which they will flip if their are speed bumps.

Nor will they with significantly less stupid and damaging approaches, which is surely the point...
