Britain secures agreement to join Indo-Pacific trade bloc

It's their loss. However, things will change a lot in future decades with demographic shifts. The US might become a very different place.

I would definitely hope so. Maybe that can happen even sooner. At least some provisions of it.

Maybe as the US can be unpredictable. But I'm quite hopeful the EU and CPTPP will eventually align.
Not much of a loss, they presently have a car industry which would otherwise be decimated by unreliable European vehicles instead of producing their own!

so are we getting a referendum on this? I mean from reading the details we have had to give up big chunks of our sovereignty and any disputes are settled in an Australian Tribunal.

I would expect Brexiteers to be up in arms over this and a massive revolt in the HoC?

They are slowly opening the door to allow the meat they have in the US pumped full of stuff to be sold in the UK

I know. It's not good. In fact I don't know why they ever allowed it in those countries or the poor animal welfare being deemed acceptable.

Because it means cheap meat and food for the population and the economy for export. We should just match the same rules now in the Uk and give our farmers a fighting chance.

Doesn't seem sensible to import stuff from halfway across the world when there's stuff closer to us. But I guess we have no choice now.

What I worry about is with regards to quality of foods/meats and the prolific use of GM foods and hormone injected meats from other regions.

I'm no expert, but it would seem you can reduce a lot of the cost with the way giant container ships work, it's extremely cheap to ship things across vast distances over water as I gather.

Clarkson's farm and countryfile the last year or so has been an eye opener. Anyone still thinking farming has a future in the UK without significant intervention by government (read subsidies) is in la la land.

Let's not look a the UK motor industry either.
