Britain's Got talent

Just an observation but why must everything be ******* "awsome" now? none of the **** in this thread could be described in such a manner unless one's expectations/experiences are really low quality.

As an aside, the "Ave Maria" is NOT an operatic piece.

If this is the best that we have and people think it's "awsome" ..... God help us!

So go on then, a) could you do better and b) what's wrong with it

;)

It is reasonably entertaining but certainly not ******* "awesome" in any sense of the word; as for me doing better, that is not the point ( though I have spent 30 years + as a full time pro' Opera singer ); it is the fact that some people seem to think that these acts are so good when they are, at best mediocre.

I'm all for putting true talent before the public and I don't wish any of these act any ill, I just think that people too easily impressed: get out there and see/hear what is available instead of watching tv crap!

I know, that's why I asked a and b because I remember agreeing with you on Paul Potts - I didn't like him at all and disliked the amount of attention he got when, really, he's no better (perhaps actually significantly worse) than any other opera singer you could pick up in any decent record shop ;)

However for a 12 year old she is pretty good and I think the main point of the show is showing what 'average' people can do, rather than going for truly 'amazing' stuff.

Well sorry, but to me who doesn't know much about this sort of thing, same as 99% of the British population, I thought she was incredible

I agree with Singist and when you listen to the Hayley Westenra version that I linked to it blows the 12 year olds out of the water.
Yes she is 12 and she is very talented but to say she is ******* awesome is ludicrous.
99.99999999% of the audience (including Powell and myself) have no idea what a great Classical/Opera singer is.
I have no doubt that if she walked into auditions for an Opera she wouldn't get in.
However, in this mornings paper it says that Simon Cowell is sending her to singing lessons because even though she's good, she's not that good yet.
This country has bred a karaoke culture and its fact that at least 60% of the population are tone deaf.
Last week a bloke come on singing a song and he was bloody awful but got a standing ovation.
You saw Cowell turn round to the row behind him and ask the girls why they were shouting for such a lousy singer and the reply was "Its the song".
Cowell just rolled his eyes.

Just out of interest, everyone keeps referring to someone saying she was ******* awesome

Who said that, I can't see any one posting it

I said she was incredible, which for 12 years old, I personally thought she was

Yeah, I'm sorry to sound like a kill joy knowitall old git but if you are in a karaoke pub and people want to "perform", whether they are good, bad or indifferent, fine, everyone is there to have a bit of fun, but if you will be appearing on national TV, demonstrating that you are tone deaf or have the coordination of bambi on stilts, it is embarassing: I'm not saying that the two acts mentioned fall into those categories but I'm sure you get my point.

In my experience, real talent will nearly always come to the fore, if given a chance but some of the acts one sees/hears nowadays that people rate as "awesome", would not have been booked at my local working mens club 20 years ago, let alone put in front of the world to demonstrate that Britain has telent.

I suppose it's a bit like people enjoying watching **** like Big Brother and some other so called "reality" prog's; the producers must love it; lets dumb down to the lowest denominator and transmit it ........ ffs! and then the occupants go on to be called celebrities ..... doh!

OK, that's my rant over for an hour or so ;) ....... a n d ...... breathe ... :D

( though I have spent 30 years + as a full time pro' Opera singer )

There. You said it yourself. 30 years compared to 5 years (?). She has potential. I don't think you can even argue against that.

And I said the guy with the saw was awesome because he was. Simple really. Did you see that?

This show is one of the biggest load of rubbish on tv at the moment.

All their looking for is which act can make the £££ after the royal variety that's the very reason why a singer will always win this show. I say the show should be open to everyone apart from singers, that's what x facter etc are for.

Plus another thing that annoys me is that the shows not about the acts its just a blatant ant and Dec + simon show. Every other second the cameras flicking between the judges and the Gordie midgets, I want to see the acts!!!.
