**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Just got back from a 4 month deployment 2 weeks ago. Just found out I'm off back to the 'gan in May for another 4+ months. Good job I don't have a life eh :p

The LSA & Op Bonus is racking up, that's for sure :) I know a guy who is on the max LSA rate with having obtained ~2800 days. Whilst this was initially impressive I realised that most of those days were accrued whilst out on ship, probably moored in a harbour of an exotic country. I like to think I earnt mine :D

Say this all too often, but I should've joined the Navy!

That and you can grow a beard! Though I probably would've have to do some sort of work!

Nearly out of phase 2. I cant wait to get out of Leconfield. Still have no idea where I want to get posted.

Where could I find info on which sqns are going on tour and when they are moving back from germany?

Off to the aerial erector school in a few weeks for climbing at heights course...

Did the WAH assessment course the other week, climbing in a blizzard aint too much fun, looking forward to it though, a week away from unit and the pleasure of RAF food, plus there loads of fitties on that base.

I love being busy, courses galore! as it stands i'll be back at camp for 1 week before summer leave:D

Had selection at ADSC Lichfield last week, got a high B grade.

Start phase 1 training for the Royal Artillery on the 2nd of June. ATR winchester I think, pretty damn stoked
I thought that place was closing down, as an ATR at least, i was down there last summer for some pre olympic training and they wernt taking in anymore intakes, the place was like a ghost town apart from the olympic lot.
anyway good luck! what regt you wanting to join?

Well. JPA says I'm either out of the army on the 3rd March next year or the 23 March.
Whatever the date is. I can't wait!!
Had a great time over the last 21 years but I'm getting a bit too old for it now :D

Have a 21 y/o friend just gone out to Laskar Gar for his first tour in 5 RA. We want to send him a parcel so what can we send out to him that's actually useful?

A steak knife and fork.
The supplied plastic crap doesn't last 2 minutes when it comes to some of them steaks!

Or if you leave them unattended at any point, but that's every cookhouse in the Army with plastic cutlery.

:D:D:D that snapped me! the amount of times i picked up my food sat down and realised i'd forgot to grab a drink, as soon as i left the table all you hear is a faint snapping sound as your cutlery has just bit the dust and you "mates" are sitting there grinning...

good suggestion however!

Got to the point where people would be using a fork with no handle because they couldn't be arsed to get new stuff.. Then we just broke off the prong bits instead.

Is the only way to go up from say a pay level 1>2 or 2>3 in your current rank to be in it for a extra year? Say after the first year you auto go from level 1 to level 2? Or can you jump levels by being decent at your job??

Not the only way no, there is also AIP(accelerated incremental progression) you may be awarded AIP's for completing certain qualifications.
your unit clerk should be aware of any AIP that they need to action and you will see an increment level increase for each one.

check the bottom left box of your payslips, there will be a bit of text along the lines of AIP available - 0(or 1 if it hasnt been actioned)

Yep, you go up a level every year on a certain date. This will be on the date of your substantive promotion (i.e. the date you start wearing rank and getting paid for that rank). However, you can jump a level by using an Advanced Increment in Pay (AIP). You can acquire these by completing a recognised qualification that is accepted to be beneficial to your job. For example, I did a nice easy IT qualification and this jumped my pay level up one. You are limited to just 2 of these throughout your military career though, so use them wisely :)

EDIT: ^what he said :D
