**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Are there actually any good deals? I've found "forces discounts" to be a bit of a swizz really. Usually if I shop around online or search for discount codes available to the general public I can often find a better deal anyway (then I have my cashback account too).

I just get a bit disgruntled by it all when I can get 10% (wow) anyway with my NUS card for doing distance learning. It feels like companies are just jumping on a forces bandwagon by appearing to come across as giving discount to a select few when really they are offered to pretty much anyone...when I'm in the US I get loads of free stuff thrown at me when shopping, I get HUGE discounts on pretty much EVERYTHING and I get bought my dinner and drinks for me by the Hooters girls/any random guy in *insert generic restaurant name here*.

Exactly, my mate loves it.

Always asks for military discount, if they refuse he asks if they do student discount (which 9/10 they do) and will make them put through student discount. Guy is such a bully, he's brilliant. :p

Can you do any what so ever? To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it too much, the only thing they're really bothered about is cardio when you do the 1.5 mile run (+ 400m warmup). I think it's something like 13:30 minutes you get for it at ADSC, but they're looking for best effort, because once you actually get in, you really need to be doing it in 10:30, so if you can do it in that time at ADSC, you'll be sorted. Obviously, turning up as fit as possible will make you life a lot easier down the line though!

How is everyone enjoying being back at work? I'm already on leave again, starting course on Monday for 10 months, awesome!

Started at leconfield and its been boring so far. Took abit to get back into it.

I try the same, most are willing to do it as student, even if the company doesn't 'allow' it..

Yeah, the first day back was a bit tedious, although the drive back is what was the worst part.. after 3 1/2 weeks off, it's never nice to go back! lol.

Luck for some! That said, I only did 2 days in work this week, left on Wednesday morning for 3 extra days of leave before a course. I've had a ridiculous amount of time off this year since getting back from Afghan in May, had my 4 weeks POTL, back in for 2 weeks, then went on another 6 weeks leave before going back, then went sailing, returned for a bit, bit more leave, then Christmas leave.. I've still got 15 days on my card as well!

Obviously i'd rather be back on leave, but i'm down sunny Wiltshire on course for 7 weeks, and to be honest despite the epic drive, i'm actually quite enjoying it, completely different pace of life down here, i'd rather be here than back at my unit at the moment.

I can do about 5 pullups, my 1.5mile time is down to about 9:50! So fingers crossed. The icebreaker is another one that concerns me, don't wanna be a nervous mess and make bad impressions! haha. Cheers for all the advice guys.

Who's your recruiter? My mate's been working at Stoke for the past couple of months. Not that I'd join up on his say so though :D

My recruiter is Sgt McClaren, do you know him?

My mate is currently halfway through his first tour of Afgan, and I want so send him some stuff.

He is in the Royal Artillary and is at FOB Ouellette.

What would go down well? 2kg weight limit I think is it?

In Starbucks at the counter they sell packs of little sachets you just pour into a cup and add water/milk. When I was away this was on of the best things in a parcel!

I was at COP Ouellette for 3 weeks working with the US Marines a couple of years ago. It was a dive back then!
There was no power, lights or sod all. It was just a big muddy mess of a place. There was even a guy on "toilet" duty 24/7 whose job was to sit outside the toilets and check that you hadn't smeared poo everywhere when you'd finish (I kid you not!!)

Best things to send are normally sweets etc. Always go down well :D

Anyone got any insider info on the next trench of redundancies?

Worth quite a lot if i get it but in two minds if i want it!

My mates over there just now - "Falklands is like a green butlins" Was what he quoted to me.

Still would rather avoid the place, send me to the dessert any day.

It gets a lot of bad press! Though there's ample opportunity to get things done, see wild life and get out and about and such! I loved it to be fair. Also seen some "wild life" in regards to some of the WAF's that venture into the bar, surrounded by atleast 10-15 RIC guys. Seen many multiple man punch ups at kicking out time at the various bars, all fun and games i suppose!
