RAF is for girls. Navy is where the real men go ;)

What would you rather be a Apache helicopter or a F16?

Apache, because a Tornado GR4 does the role of 12 F16's on a daily basis.

I'm rather undecided as to what I'm going to be doing in the army now due to the fact my trade no longer exists :(. I've think I may end up joining the AAC as an Airtrooper, as you can progress to being a pilot, but I'm unsure yet. Going to the AFCO on Wednesday to have a chat and drop off some documents. Getting sick of being a bartender lol.

Have you considered the RAF and RN?

Yeah, there are even less trades there that took my fancy on the IT side. I still want to be in the Army however, even though I'm kinda wanting to change my trade to a more avionics based one. Couldn't really do Navy as staying on a ship would do my nut in, only thing I'd try in the Navy would be the RM Commandos. The RAF, well, I just don't fancy being a crab haha.

Which trade?

Systems Engineering Technician. Still listed on the Army's website for some odd reason, but yeah, that and IS Engineer have merged to make a Communications Systems Engineer now, which if you read the job description, basically sounds like a help desk for the Army. Sucks having all these modular components which now can be replaced rather than fixed, and all the fixing is being outsources :(.

Being a SET, for 9 years now, (soon to be leaving) I think I can make a more educated guess at what's happening.

Trust me, a CES Eng is not a help desk operator. All depends on the unit you go to.

It's all network engineering now, be it sat as an admin on a network doing sharepoint and unlocking people's accounts or working directly with subcontracted companies solving problems on some very interesting comms circuits, the job is both challenging and rewarding.

Reason I'm leaving you ask; just don't enjoy the 'Army' side anymore.

BTW, if you want some advice from someone that's in and doing the job, has experience and will tell you how it is exactly with no recruitment BS, feel free to add me on MSN, details of which is in trust.
