**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

It'll be pink now. Vauxhall red never lasts in sunlight ;)

Im pretty sure there's only patches of pink, with a substantial touch of rust.

My favourite part of Cyprus how acceptable it was to drive a piece of **** and how the Cypriots laughed when tou crashed. Cypriot gave me a crate of beer when i totally destroyed the rear of his car once. Miss that mentality.

Been over to Cyprus many times over the years on various things, but only really ever transited through Aki … or ran there as in Gym2Gym (always a better idea before doing it)

My time mainly around Dhekelia, Epi and Nicosia

Will be getting my Crown in a couple of months time. A rare moment of pride for me :) 17 year old me would be thrilled. As he wouldn't have expected that he'd be in the mob 18 years later!

Congrats! Is that (B)Army or RAF? I never expected to get my Sgt tapes, but i got my Crown too (RAF) - nice salary and pension bump, but a **** ton more work and admin/welfare to deal with. They say only take your Crown if you are looking to get your Warrant!

RAF. I have a 5 years left before EDP (*Cries in AFPS05/15*). So will have to do until i'm 40! On the whole, i'm still enjoying it even if i do have the odd whinge here and there. Flight Sergeant wasn't expected, i managed to get it at my first look at the board which was nice! Warrant is Deadman's shoes at the moment so i think this is the last rung of the ladder for me, though i'm looking forward to the opportunity to be a stronger LM as the last few years have been more Ops focused.

But who knows! The entire landscape will change multiple times over the next 5 years.

I think 40 is a nice time to leave, as I can still have a crack at something else. Though the thought of leaving is absolutely terrifying as the RAF is all i've known during my adult life!

There are quite a few RAF flavoured members on this forum kicking about..

How many still serving Army members are still around ?

I’m at 16 years now and subject to contract, would like to see it out fully … with additional years because I am so utterly indoctrinated at this point

I was ready to leave when i got my crown and did the time to get the pension, buuuuuuuuut i did something i said i would never do and joined FTRS. The draw of being able to take your full pension at 60, job security (5 year contract with potential for extensions), limited time away etc was too good to ignore.

At your rank now, you have the voice to potentially start making a role FTRS for you to nicely slide into . At my last place i was coming up for posting; my Warrant wanted me to stay and offered to FTRS the position so he could keep me and i could stay local. This is what got me researching FTRS. I was still ready to ET as i was pretty burnt out from that role and the thought of another 5 years in that place was enough to drive someone to drink! But then another FTRS post came up on SERVE which sounded interesting and i've been here 4 months now.

Anyway, congrats - side with the boss in front of the troops, tell them they're a dick behind closed doors when needed and look after your troops too. Also, don't get burnt out, the reward for good work, is more work.

I don’t have many regrets, but I do wonder what would have been if I’ve of signed up at 18 - I was a very young 18 year old :D

Career wise doing ok for myself but whenever this thread gets a bump I often wonder.

Reserves are recruiting heavily, especially cyber roles! Whether it's full or part time reserves, it's never too late, especially as they have increased the joiners age.

Anybody military here been mandated to have a profile picture on teams?

It's latest thing management are chasing when there are more important matters obviously.

Can't wait to leave in a few years time

@ivrytwr3 - you're ex tg4 right? Must be some sort of policy saying it's not mandated

You say it’s a bad thing? It’s partly about cyber security and prevent people from impersonating other people.

It was heavily "encouraged" in my last place before I got out, along with your pronouns etc etc I never did any of it though. They stopped short of mandating it, and they got fed up asking. I'm a right old stubborn git when I want to be!

I'll change my profile picture to the CDS then and create an order against it if it's that easy.

Considering I have to 2FA/MFA/Yubi Key into my own account all the time and only certain users can change roles/names etc. I'd say it's secure enough.

Scratch that, given the amount of laptops that are left in coffee shops/on trains. You're probably right.

Need to stop ranting

I left the regulars at the start of this year - never heard of it being mandated or even mentioned at that point.

Never put any pronouns in my sig either - just some Latin translation of ‘I can’t believe you bothered translating this’

I’m not saying I agree or disagree just stating the probable reason.

My daily annoyance in my role and company I work for which is heavily scrutinised.

Nothing about mandating profile pics.

But if they do, can we standardise them so people don’t put cringe ones on.

And let’s make signature blocks standardised as well, surely there is a limit to how many professional bodies you can be accredited too before it screams “not a specialist in any of them”?
