Practice One - Webber tops but stops at soggy Silverstone
Mark Webber set the fastest time in an inconclusive first practice session on Friday morning at Silverstone, lapping his Red Bull in 1m 46.603s. The Australian rolled to a halt at the end of the session, however, with an undisclosed problem.

Yet another inconclusive practice session has kept observers guessing on the true effect of the ban on off-throttle blown diffusers, as the weather remained changeable at Silverstone on Friday afternoon.

Anyone seen the news on OBD it was meant to be 8:30 release.

Also :mad: no wonder we have DRS and how much of a muppet. Perhaps he should have seen the FOTA fan videos, where everyone acknlodges that F1 fans are very technically minded and want to know what's happening.
All sports face the dilemma of where the dividing line is between sport and entertainment. What are your guiding principles when you think about your sport.

But no idea what if anything they changed.
 
So is hot blowing over 10%? If so that's still rubbish.
Why the hell do they not say, run the old maps for the rest of the season.

Which is why it should be left as is until the end of the season.

Renault can't hot blow, it would kill their engine. So mercedes have an advantage that Renault can't meet as engine development is banned. Unless they fit bigger radiators. Perhaps that's why RBR are so up in arms. They are meant to be running the tightest package with not enough room for kers let alone larger radiators.

FIA reverts to original exhaust*decision

The FIA issued a further Technical Directive this morning that in effect brings us back to where we were earlier this weekend, with teams restricted to 10% throttle opening under braking.

Renault and Red Bull have thus lost the advantage that rivals claimed they had been given yesterday.

After the letter was sent out this morning Adrian Newey and Christian Horner went down to visit race control to discuss it further. In fact this blog told Charlie Whiting that they were waiting for him…

Today’s TD26 says that from today the FIA will revert to the already issued TD22 and TD25, and states that any evidence on the matter that has arisen since Thursday is not admissible in terms of influencing the FIA’s decision.

The directive says: “In line with the requirements to provide acceptable SECU configurations to the FIA before the start of the British GP, ie before the start of the Event at 10am on Thursday, we consider any information provided after that time to be inadmissible for this Event.”

The directive adds that there is “an exception (of which every manufacturer was aware before the event) fired overrun will be permitted in FC04.”

The significance of that is that as Horner made clear yesterday Renault cannot take advantage of that for reliability reasons, whereas Mercedes can.

I would have thought so.

Either cold blow and have small rads, or hot blow and compromise your aero. We all know which way RBR has gone and I expect why they are kicking up such fuss compared to other renault teams, that I haven't heard a peal from.
 
Don't forget that previously Mercedes were hot blowing by a lot more than 10%

That's trypue, but going from 68 cold blown to 10% hot blown is a Hell of a heat change that hass to be dissipated. Nothing can be done this weekend. Maybe mercedes engines cars will be able to reduce radiator size and gain a little aero and lower ballast. Where Renault cars might have to increase radiator size to just cope with 10% cold blown let alone hot blown. I bet they are glad it's England and cool temps.
 
As long as it is restricted to 10% I don't see what concesions mercedes have got.
The only problem comes if due to the no engine development that Renault engines simply can't hot blow.
 
Why not just ban blown diffusers I stead of all this 10% 50% nonsense and just be done with the matter.

When was it first discussed two months ago?
More than enough time for new exhaust to be made and corresponding body work.
But why change it mid season at all.

So there is no 10% rule. God this has been handled badly from fia, why so much secrecy and lack of clarity.

So you can have hot blown or more cold blown and teams are free to implement such maps and all teams are the same, it's not special dispensation it applies across the bored.

I can't believe the confusion all because of unneeded secrecy.
