British Grand Prix 2012, Silverstone - Race 9/20

True.

Interesting that they are using the International layout tomorrow...

Also interesting after all the "sure they will be able to find plenty of young drivers from other series" claims that the 4 guys driving are 1 test driver not in a series this year, 2 GP2 drivers who follow the same calendar as F1, and a complete nobody, again with no seat this year.

Hardly the cream of the crop of young drivers from across the globe...

FIA clarifies defensive driving guidelines in Formula 1

Shock as the broadcasters last weekend got it all wrong then .

They were all saying that the FIA had said that getting your front wing alongside meant the guy in front had to give up the place, which was just retarded.

What the FIA have actually said is that you cannot move across on a driver on a straight and squeeze them off the track if they are even slightly alongside. Which is perfectly fine. It only applies to straights and not braking zones or corners.

So, are they saying that what Button did to Hamilton in Canada 2011, is now illegal?

I think its more about the things like Rosbergs moves in Bahrain, and Schumacher at Monza last year or Hungary against Barichello. Intentional moves. Button didn't squeeze Hamilton, he just didn't know he was there, but I expect under this rule he would now be penalised.

Its for those situations where a driver squeezes another into a situation where the options are to lift of and back out of the move, or be pushed off the track.

But surely, any driver could use the excuse of, "sorry bruv, I didnt know you were there". And in the Stewards' room, the driver can use exactly the same excuse.

If you are going to apply the rule, then you can't allow the "sorry, I didn't see his car which happened to be right next to me, while I squeezed it into the wall or off the track".

What you have described is exactly what happened in Canada 2011.

Personally, I can't see how this rule clears anything up. It merely asks drivers to be considerate to other drivers and don't play dirty. This "don't play dirty" rule has been in operation for the last couple of decades now. Didn't MSc have his 2nd place in the championship taken away from him, for playing dirty (was it 1997)?

So you are suggesting JV should have been penalised for being taken out (loss of points etc) ?

JV was doing what he needed to, MS came into the back of him (and punted them both off) without any question of a move being available

Just like in Canada, JB was in the lead, on the same racing line as previous laps and the car/driver behind misjudged available space/time (although not as blatantly as MS in '97 lol)

If the car initially ahead is going to go off the racing line to squeeze another car even further off in the same continuous move (as you can only move once, unless that's now been binned) then you still have to leave enough room ON the track for the 2nd car........obviously its highly dependant on how far along the car behind is, and how long it has to be there before the rule counts (ie at some point there are fractions of a second between driver infront removing the space legitimately, with no harm done, and taking out the front wing etc)
