British Grand Prix 2013, Silverstone - Race 8/19

I think it was DC who made a suggestion whilst they were interviewing Ross Brawn that the young driver programme with current spec cars should be used to test tyres. That way each car will be able to see how their car responds to new compounds for the race. But the problem is there is such a short interval between races and cars and tyres are evolving all the time.

Pirelli have been making high deg tyres for years. This issue is entirely separate from the high deg request by the FIA.

It's a recent alteration to their manufacturing process that's gone wrong, which isn't anything to do with the FIA. It was the start of this season that Pirelli implemented some changes to the tyre structure (as opposed to the compound, which also changed). This change led to the delaminating problem and it would appear that in their attempts to fix this, they've made it even worse with fully exploding tyres.

Absolutely none of this is related to the FIA requesting high wear tyres several years ago. The regulations and requests didn't change for 2013, Pirelli just made alterations off their own back.

I don't know why people are getting so mixed up between 'FIA ask for high deg tyres, Pirelli supply them, no one likes them' and 'Pirelli try a new structure, tyres explode', they are very clearly distinct issues.

Feel free to browse other areas of the forum if the discussions don't interest you. There are plenty of threads in GD with under 5 words per post.

(Although my previous post wasn't directed at you specifically...)

I would like to stay in this part of the forum thanks. You could help perhaps by posting with a lower number of words. 5 words would be ideal ;)

Slight problem with Gary Anderson's 'analysis' that it was the edge of the kerb that was causing the cuts in the tyres was that he was at turn 4, which is a right-hander, which the drivers would have been cutting by riding over with their right-front and right-rear tyres. The failures on Massa, Perez and Hamilton's cars were all on the left rear...

Just got back, great day. Stage after was great fun as usual.

So glad my mates told me f off when I suggested in the Pirelli stand, that we all buy Pirelli caps to be edgy and contreversial.

Incidentally I forgot how plastic the tyres feel. I'm surprised it didn't explode when I rubbed it. Fairly sure I caused excessive tyre wear on it still lol.

Damn it. I would have said Hammy would have been back in the title race had he won this race. Such a shame. If he didn't have bad luck he would have no luck at all.

I've just seen an analysis on SSN with Anthony Davidson he was pointing out how the left rear tyres were getting deformed in the corners.
