British Grand Prix 2014, Silverstone - Race 9/19

Is there a purposed date for when this may happen. Would require a massive car redesign fuel to suspension and they could allow much bigger brakes.

I don't think it's confirmed as happening at all yet. Just a propsal, though if they've gone to the effort of manufacturing tyres and wheels (and presumably brakes, etc), then you have to expect them to be introduced at some point in the future.

The likes of fuel and suspension would be fairly mundane redesigns which in a basic sense could be calculated relatively quickly, and they're likely to change year-on-year anyway, but it will have a massive effect on aerodynamics (again something which would change each year, but not to this extent).

Those teaser images make the 18" wheels look better than I was expecting actually. Looking forward to seeing some photos of them!

Will be interesting hearing whether Ferrari testing the separate wastegate/exhaust combo makes the sound more interesting.

Would be good to be able to see the brakes glowing more clearly again - something about it that makes me feel funny inside :D

Nothing to do with wheel rim size stopping you seeing glowing brakes, it's all the shrouding around them, which presumably wouldn't change.

People need to also remember tomorrow's test is nothing to do with testing the tyres. It's purely to test the aesthetics and see if the look is something people want.

Good Peter Windsor video as usual. He thinks the repair was to long and silly. He says other British tracks would have put a rectocell barrier (sp) (5min job) in front off it.
And that Silverstone wouldn't take any risk and rules need clarifying.

And what happens then after they start, someone flukes another accident into the same spot, they go through the damaged incomplete barrier and get decapitated, the car plows on at 150mph and kills 5 marshals. The race is stopped, Silverstones insurance is invalid, they get sued, go bust, F1 leaves and never comes back and the rest of the UK circuits are closed due to safety fears and pressure from MPs over racing being dangerous?

Its a risk they won't take. The barrier has a purpose, and it dis that in keeping Kimis car within the track. To do it again it needed to be repaired, so it was.

The entire argument against it comes from people simply being impatient.

Given how many leaps of faith you did there just for the driver to be decapitated, let alone anything else happening from the same accident its ten times more likely for the pole man to stall on the grid and every other car to crash into him and people being in the stands being hit by bouncing tyres

Anyone seen this?

Not heard anything about this previously - sounds like it could hurt Mercedes if it goes through?

Very interesting.

Cant see every team agreeing (if they dont all have some sort of similar system, which is what the article states).

Can imagine it being a major part of most cars (as the idea has been around for so long), so it wont be a simple solution to remove it - whether any/all teams could prove that its not active is another matter entirely though I guess
