So will Rosberg need a new gearbox and so will get a grid penalty next race (or at least soon).

I wonder when Hamilton will decide to take the hit also for his new parts - it will have to be on a track where they perform well and can overtake.

Even for them its hard to overtake at Hungary so wouldn't expect it done there.

From what I've read it depends on what the issue was. If it was just a software/electronics problem then he should be fine. If it was an actual mechanical failure then I believe he'll need a new gearbox and thus a penalty. Mercedes have kept quiet about it so far.

Nice pics, gord.

I was watching the race again yesterday and even after the issue he was still using 7th as normal not just flicking past it on the way up or down so chances are it was a sensor/electronic/software issue and he'll be fine. (Unfortunately. Lol)

Mercedes sabotaged rosberg with that radio message

No, they gambled and got third for him instead of a DNF. That's not a bad result.

I think Rosbergs last two results have been pretty good considering. I.e. how many times has a front wing gone under a car and put someone out of the race compared to the amount of times they've gone and the driver has got through it?

I see his last two results as bonus points as they could've easily been DNF's and scored him nothing.

Ugh. 'Greatest opening lap of all time'? No. Not even close.

Had Verstappen been in second place Hamilton wouldn't have been 3.7 seconds in the lead.

Clearly he missed Donington in 1993 among many others, and frankly most of Hamilton's opening laps from further back in the field in the past two years were better than this (Hungary 2014 excluded). Most of Vettel's old Red Bull opening laps were more impressive too, opening up a couple of seconds even on a neutral, dry track.

Watched the first half of the race on Sunday night and it was good, entertaining and fun, the second half on Monday, that wasn't so good, a bit boring tbh. Looking forward to Hungary though, usually throws up some cracking races.

You know the safety car is out too long when everyone pits for inters. Happens all the time. They're big boys with tyres specifically made for standing water. Let them race earlier.

On the subject of possible gearbox replacement, why will he get a penalty, are they not aloud to swap between gearboxes within the yearly allocation penalty free? Or are the gearboxes tied to the Ice and going out of sync will receive penalty, for some reason I had it in my head that they were free to swap and change power unit components and gearboxes etc within the seasons allocation. Just when I thought I was getting to grips with regulations...

Didn't I hear the commentators on Friday saying that Ferrari will be swapping out the gearbox for a race one? Or is that still within the regs, keep old gearboxes for Fridays and then drop in the less used gearbox for the race.

I heard Hamilton say in one of the interviews that he was taking it easy on his engine during the second half/end of the race. Hopefully that helps him going forward.

I also watched the winners room/podium bit. Wow, that was awkward! Haha! My favourite bit was when Hamilton was talking to Verstappen about him getting second. He said, did he make a mistake? and Verstappen said no i overtook him. All while he's stood in the room pretending not to listen.. :D :D I also thought Webber was good at the interview type stuff in front of the camera.

Parc Ferme rules kick in from Saturday. They are allowed to run what they want on Fridays so will often use old gearboxes and engines.
