I haven't been for about 6 or 7 years when I used to go regularly with the first being the 1986 GP at Brand Hatch which was Mansells first British GP win and also the 'infamous' Silverstone track invasion in 1992 that forced him (and I think some other drivers) to stop on the slow down lap at Club which was 1/2 a lap distance from the pits back then. I'm proud to say I was part of that invasion although a little late to get to Mansell in the Williams itself as it was 10+ deep around him and the car but then I spotted a transit making its way through the crowd to rescue him so stood next to that when it stopped and let him come to me :D
Oh you and your technicalities!

It was a great era for British motorsport and motorsport in general. Good to see some fans photos from the time. Cheers. :)

I can't believe it's 10 years since I last went to Silverstone - Hamiltons first one. Time flies !!

7 of us are going tomorrow for a Thurs to Mon long weekend camping nearby in the grounds of Whittlebury Hall.

This is him seconds after being bundled into the van and taken through the windscreen. Pity about the relection but no digital cameras then so I clicked and hoped it came out ok

A few mins after he departed I got this one of the winning car still stuck at Club

Hoping this year after so many years away the sound isn't too much of a disappointment. This is my 12 year old sons first GP and as he's an Alonso fan we know a podium won't be possible (without rain) but am crossing my fingers he has a relativly trouble free weekend with the spec 3 engine and can perhaps grab a few points.

Also have a pit lane walkabout on Thursday and hoping some of the drivers (especially Alonso) are in the pit lane to sign autographs. My sons been practicing his spanish to catch his attention ;)
Those photos appear to be Mansell and the Williams from 1986.

Best spot for GA in my opinion is on the grass at Club. Was there 2 years ago and enjoyed it a lot. The grass is raised up and you could see over rather than through the catch fencing, get to see some overtaking, had a big screen the other side of the track to see the action elsewhere on the circuit and the atmosphere was fantastic. Whole crowd cheering every time a British driver went past and booing every time Rosberg went past :D

Came in there today from the Woodlands camp site and I agree it looks like a good place to sit if it's dry. Good views and you get to see the cars for quite a while.

Did anyone go to the F1 live show yesterday in london?

Yes, I got to Trafalgar Square about 5:45pm when Bastille were playing, but it was absolutely rammed, must have been about 8-9 people deep up to the barriers. I figured the crowds might be slightly less along Whitehall, but it was impossible to get down the road due to the sheer number of people. Most of the side roads were closed with security walls up, so I had to walk down Embankement until I found a way around. I ended up taking a spot at the turnaround point in front of Horse Guards. However, there were still a lot of people in front of me and when everyone lifted up their phones, it was difficult to see.

I don't know whether it was something that was shown in the live coverage, but there was an incident in the crowd which caused the car demo to be halted. Whatever it was that happened was near to where Bottas stalled his car and got out; an ambulance came onto the course, they removed some of the barriers and paramedics went into the crowd with a spine board.

Myself and others theorised that somebody had either collapsed, or it might have been that they fell from something, as a lot of people were climbing up buildings and traffic furniture, which Police were telling people to get down from.

It's a bit of a shame really, as I'd finally managed to work my way to the front of the crowd by that stage. The TV operators, marshals etc all looked to be waiting for it to resume, however I guess because of how long it took to get the person away in the ambulance, they had to call it a day on the cars.

Went back up to Trafalgar Square afterwards where they had all the cars on display, live music and the drivers on stage, again this was really difficult to move around in because of the number of people. I can echo the news reports that when Nico Rosberg was on stage, Jake Humphrey asked him about Hamilton and Vettel... Vettel got a lot of cheers, where as Hamilton had a mix of cheering and booing. I would also say that majority of people who were there were F1 fans, as there was a lot wearing merchandise, this was intermixed with tourists and those who worked nearby.

It was a nice free event to have, but I think it also demonstrated how ridiculous the logistics of putting on a race in Central London are, which is why I doubt it will ever happen.

Video I took here:

Was also staying at Woodlands the year I went with that spot. Me and my mate had to be up and queueing at the gate about 45 minutes before they opened in order to then run to the spot and setup our chairs. Worth keeping in mind as there's a lot of people who will head that way!

Was absolutely worth it though. The year this happened the other half of our mates were in the grandstands at Becketts freezing cold in the wind + shade wearing coats/trousers. Whilst we soaked up the sun drinking cider :D

Hope it's different this year. We have Becketts grandstand tickets!

Mercedes seem to have the pace for 1-2s now. Hamilton needs a win here and for bottas to get between him and Vettel. I reckon Hamilton can do this over the season. Vettel has penalties coming up to.
