Got my tickets booked for 2018. weekend grandstand tickets, right at the back row at Stowe B. Camping at Woodlands in a large electric hook up pitch as my mate has a tent thats 5.5x7m with the porch :| £827.50 alltogether for the 2 of us. £250 each for the grandstand, £145 for the large electric camping pitch then £85 per person for the camping. + £12.50 booking fee

Hi all i have come back from silverstone. i drove back and forth for the whole weekend.

i live 1.5hours away on a good day so wasnt too bad.

Fri i got to sit and explore each stand of the whole track and enjoyed it .

Sat i was very cold. So cold i had to buy a hoody there for 80 quid! Beckets was a good corner to see the cars go round.

Sunday was race day and much warmer and chilled. I was at the track when he did the crowd surf and was bang on right next to him when it all kicked off(Hamilton)

Loving it. the Atmosphere was wonderful and i may go again next year.

That is an insane amount of money. How many nights camping is that? For comparison
£460 covered me for 5 nights for Le Mans last year and an overnight stay in Paris, of which the breakdown is:

  • £182 Dublin to Paris flights
  • £150 GA, Camping and S/F line Grandstand tickets
  • £82 Sharing car hire, food and petrol
  • £44 Overnight Hostel in Paris
If you've got and willing to spend that kind of money, who am I to judge but it just shows that the cost of Formula One and in particular in the UK is out of control.

yea teh cost in UK is no joke. this is why ive left it late to go silverstone. and i only bought GA tickets and even that set me 230 quid.

No way was i gunna drop a further xxx on camping. i suck it up and just drove each day . 70mile journey back and forth last weekend.

camping is from when it opens Wednesday morning until it closes on Monday night. is that £460 for 1 person? This works out to be £413.75 PP for the 2 of us. would be cheaper still if there were more going as the price of the pitch would be split between each person. I'm coming from scotland so its a fair trek there, but the atmosphere in the campsite was amazing when i was there in 2013. Its my birthday present for my 30th in december this year so have splashed out a bit :P

If you get to camp that long, then I suppose isn't too bad.

That's what it cost me and my mate each from the UK We were a 15 strong group from mainly the EU so they didn't have flights as they all drove and didn't have car hire funds. The flights were expensive for us, because we have to get off this bloody island that is Ireland. First year I went to Le Mans I went via Amsterdam and shared a car with a friend, was around £80 for flights!.

In short, £150 is all it cost to go to the event, everything else is the cost of me living in Northern Ireland getting there.

We're going off topic a little... sorry.

Great race for no weather effects.

Bit biased as Hulkenberg got 6th in Renault. Most importantly he beat the FI fair and square. Glad to see them making significant progress. Would be nice of they finished the season ahead of Williams and FI on pace (if points are too much as they have a palmer in there!)

Rated 8 due to some good action and last laps antics.

Vettel is getting very annoying!

Loved seeing vestapen driving tbh

The woodlands campground is where I stayed and it closed Monday morning at 10 so I don't think you can stay all day.

While I can't comment on anything previous to this year a few observations about Silverstone.

Some sort of shuttle bus or hireable bikes would make them a fortune. It's a huge track and easily took us half an hour to walk from entry to Becketts. Loads of people took bikes which seems very clever.

I am royally SICK of walking on stones and gravel. It wasn't even particularly fine gravel so your feet get very sore after a day or two, never mind three days. I'd like to see them Tarmac the gravel areas, especially where people walk most often.

The food was mostly good with pricing actually better than I thought. I was expecting £8-10 for a burger for example but a cheeseburger was £5.50-£6 and bottles of coke/water were £2. This was the same at every outlet and there was loads of variety too which was nice to see.

Grandstand seats didn't have a huge amount of legroom which is why I picked seats at the top of the stairs for the extra space and it was worth it. Bit too high up mind and on the Saturday it was FREEZING.

It looked like there were several hundred seats I could see at various grandstands that were empty so no way was it a sellout but it was still very busy. Was also surprised there were no races after the F1 race at all to encourage people to stay rather than get away immediately. I'm glad I stayed until the Monday morning. The queue seemed to move about a hundred yards in an hour!

I've always thought that they really need to have a roadway around the circuit for all the golf cart type vehicles that are in amongst the crowds, it would be useful for those on bikes as well. It would ease the congestion in pinch points when vehicles are trying to get through.

Having been a number of times, I always find it amusing seeing people who are going for the first time, particularly women who arrive in heels, thinking it's all glamour! The reality is that unless you are very privileged, you are going to be walking on grass, gravel and more often than not, mud!

It's often tends to be quite chilly in the grandstands, even on warm days. The circuit is very exposed, so only takes a light wind.

There are usually some hospitality grandstands that tend to stay quite empty, which might part explain that. But you are right, they were still selling tickets on the day.

There is already a road that goes around most parts of the track

Yeah there is a road that goes right round, takes longer but is easier on the feet :) was lot's of empty seats around Luffield on the Sunday when normally it is pretty full. We sat in Becketts for FP3 and it was like winter in there :D Woodlands seemed to have less toilets and showers this year so getting up later than 6am meant pretty big queues, inside the track nothing much changed from last year apart from some free wifi trial at Vale and some kids stuff behind Stowe.
