Of course they do....

The penalty was given, not sure what it is they hope to achieve other than stoking this stupid media fire and feeding the trolls, now who is classy?

I hope 2022 sees Ferrari and Mclaren knock it out the park, leaving Merc and Redbull to fight for scraps at this rate.

I guess that is the point. RB are putting everything they have into winning this championship as they will be back to mid runners again next season :p. If they don't win it Mr Red Bull will be making heads roll.

Oh if Max doesn't win it and 2022 is a shambles then with Redbulls record of drivers who knows what will happen.

I just don't like them as a team and never have.

Red Bull are just embarrassing themselves now.

It was a pretty standard coming together between two rivals that refused to back down. This is what happens when someone does not yield or give space.

Lewis was more than half way in front leading into the corner and in no way moved towards Max to punt him off. Max had acres of space on his left so could have just taken a wider line to 100% avoid contact with Lewis. Lewis likewise could have yielded/backed out more.

The way RBR are reactingis ridiculous. They need to get over it and teach Max that if he has such a large championship lead again, it might be safer to settle with a podium than risk a dnf, and not expect everyone to just yield to him all the time.

Getting lawyers in....just lol.

Also, just to add, I see many comments that imply Hamilton did it intentionally, which makes no sense. That incident could have just as easily finished Lewis' race aswell / instead (essentially ending his title chances) and Lewis needs all the points he can get. Intentionally wiping himself and his rival out each race isn't going to get him nowhere. There is NO way Lewis was thinking "I'm going to intentionally boot Max off the track here". No doubt he will be taking more risks to try and close the gap, but intentional crashes will get him nowhere.

Saw this on twitter.

Hamiltons racing line in qualifying and during lap 1. Not much in it at all.

Yep, Verstappen was clearly trying to make the apex as well and two cars simply don't go into one, even if Hamilton had been hugging the inside white line all of the way they would have eventually collided at the apex (where the curb is). Verstappen should have gone around the outside as Hamilton had already won the inside line despite Verstappen trying to squeeze him into breaking.

When F1 used to be dangerous drivers knew to give each other space because their lives depended on it, now that it's so safe they just try to bully one another into braking. At what point do you say too much safety is a bad thing when it makes drivers so aggressive?

Anyway, racing incident all day long for me. Verstaoppen was essentially playing chicken by cutting across Hamilton's line and Hamilton didn't want to back down because he knew from the Mickey Mouse race that it might be his only chance.

I'd say thats pretty far alongside.. clearly as Lewis was going faster than Max (significantly, due to higher top speed AND the tow) he had to brake earlier to make corner (which we have to assume was the idea!) so he then does drop back but he's claimed the corner according to the rules allegedly...

I don't say he's blameless but to me that is clearly a racing incident BOTH share some responsibility for. Sure the stewards blamed Lewis in the majority hence his penalty but that's it. No need for RBR histrionics and all the hate we see now

If you look at the second picture max was in front and therefor had the corner\racing line.
As danny ric and lando have said. Hamilton went to fast in to the corner and under steered.

"Vettel was given a five second penalty, but still finished in fifth place. Bottas, the victim of Vettel's tap, finishes seventh." 2018 French GP

Hamilton said

'Ultimately, if you ruin someone's race because of a mistake, and you're able to come back to a place ahead of the other person, that penalty doesn't outweigh your mistake. You shouldn't be able to finish ahead of the other person if you take them out of the race. It's like you're violating the speed, but just let you go,''

How things change.

He's trying to use it as a 'gotcha' moment. But people can do that about Horner.

Christian Horner said:
“Turn 1 was mega. I mean Max, that was full Max Verstappen – he was just going for it – and he positioned the car fantastically well,” said Horner after the Spanish GP. “He tucked in, he got a little bit of a tow and a bit of momentum. And yeah he just braked later and ran the car wide. Thankfully Lewis had got out of it because otherwise he would have ended up in the fence,” he added.

People are willfully ignoring all the times Lewis has avoided incidents with Max. The one time he doesn't yield after being bullied for a few corners and suddenly he is a maniac who wants to murder competitors

I think all of those times that has happened Hamilton was in Max's weaker vulnerable position too playing the numbers game, this time around Hamilton was in the stronger position ie if contact occurs Max would likely spin although obviously with the risk of Hamilton sustaining damage, or if Max carried on he would have run wide and probably have to relinquish the position. (similar to Bahrain)

I agree with JP but he will get "discounted" cos (1) not Pro Max and (2) British and (3) Not calling for Hamilton to be castrated/shot/banned for life and other stupidity

Very polarising... Max fans are apoplectic right now
