broken PS3

Slightly side tracking PS1 or was it PS2's but can you remember haven't to out the console upside down or on its side to get the drive to read the disk . Or was that just modified ones..... anyways murky water and all that ;)

That was the PSone. I had to do it with 3 of them, the 4th one was given away before I had to flip it. I was one of the ones to get a bad launch batch PS2, I was on it 15 minutes before the laser scratched a mark right around the rim of my SSX. To say I was gutted is an understatement.

My PS3 has frozen twice now on the game over screen on Warhawk when the match ends, hope this is not a fault with my PS3, hasn't crashed before just on this screen.

Warhawk can be a funny like that, its happened to me a few times but not recently, its possibly a connection issue.

Ah, you confused me by basically saying "are the all dying from heat" and "my small office" in the same sentence. I put 2 and 2 together and got 5 :p.

Like I said above, and despite the rubbish that poster above said, Sony consoles generally fail on drive failures. I've had 3 PS's fail, 1 PS2 and 1 PS3 all fail on drive failures. I know a lot of other people have had the same in regards to past consoles.

nothing to worry about, consoles are easy to get replaced.

Well I'm still on my launch console and it's going strong so I don't think there's a problem at all. What are these people doing with their consoles to make them fail - they must be mis-treating them some how? :p

(sorry, couldn't resist - being as though the 'tables have turned'!)

Don't panic, it happens to me occasionally too. Once i decided to leave it and after around 3 mins i got a network timeout error and was kicked back to the login screen and logged out of the PSN, so i'm guessing its just a poorly handled connection error. The same thing happened in the burnout paradise demo once for me too.

Hopefully today firmware update will go some way to resolving it (as it's geared towards fixing online stability)

To the OP, just take it back to the retailer and they'll swap it there and then, they did so with my Elite which died after a week. They actually told me at the time that they would swap out up to the 12 months limit.

Yours is a 60gb model though. Not a 40gb model.

I'm not sure if you're having a dig or having a laugh with that one?

People had a go at me when I stated that 40gb PS3's weren't as reliable as some people would have you believe. It's not a surprise when someone states their PS3 is broken and it's the 40gb model.

Not exactly, if i remember right you were actually inferring that it was as unreliable as Xbox 360.

I never once said that, several people wanted to believe that is what I was saying.

What I said was, Sony released their new 40gb models which are less reliable than their 60gb counterparts.
Microsoft released their new Xbox360s which are more reliable than their old ones.

I then stated more people appear to have been getting faulty 40gb PS3's than new Xbox360's.

I've said the same thing every time, but people keep bringing up old Xbox360s, old PS3's or imagining that I've said something altogether different.

I know, I was just taking the **** out of the 360 fanboys who always have to pipe up and say they haven't had a problem with their console when the argument is about 360 reliability. Wasn't aimed at you directly!

The thing is, who knows exactly how many new 360's or 40GB PS3's have gone or not gone wrong? Knowing someone who knows someone else who's had 4 break doesn't count. How do we know that everyone who has one break tells it here? I have had two Elite's fail (1 grinding fans, 1 HDMI failure) but I haven't started a new thread for them here. The same can be said about PS3's breaking, everyone could be making a thread about it hence it 'looks' like more are breaking, but again, hardly anyone could be making threads, hence there could be more than what we know about. Whatever, it will take many more thousands of lasers to fail before they even think about matching the 360's pathetic failure rate.

True. Which is why I reference my friend who works retail and receives the consoles back when faulty. It's a better gauge than whether or not posters have mentioned it on here.

We know, but Sony and Microsoft have both revised their consoles. Is it not fair that we compare those now? We know Sony were the more reliable in the last revision (nor has that ever been under question).

I've not seen a post about a new Premium or Arcade dying on here. (though I'm sure they have).
