See even in Gigabyte's marketing video they mostly show it vertical like in Zotac's marketing. Tiny brief shot of it horizontal and looks like it would struggle to put the side panel on this, with their 12pin bent over.

If MSI don't make it for launch day are there any other brands that take steps to reduce coil whine?

I can assure you MSI's "steps to reduce coilwhine" are not successful - my MSI 3080 Gaming X screamed like pig. Cooling solution was silent though, which is a shame as the coilwhine never did it justice.

Hundreds is not that many, were expecting to sell 1000+ on day one. :)

According to this poll you will have plenty to go around as only 93 people currently want one  i suspect a few who have selected the bottom option done so by mistake and actually meant to vote YES: 4090 24GB ;)

Out of interest what were the day one sales / preorders on the 3090 when it was released ?

Yeah i think there outliers with every brand, but if you look at any coil whine polls MSI are usually miles ahead with the fewest reported cases.

From personal experience I've had two 3080 MSI Suprims that had no coil whine and two Rog Strix 3080's that were completely terrible.

Makes all this such a lottery. There was nothing worse than trying to play Elden Ring earlier this year with a screaming graphics card, while the same game was completely silent on the both Suprims.

There were over 500 back orders just for the 3090 strix. On the plus side if you miss out on a 4090 this time I'm sure there will be plenty of 4080s to choose from :p

Yeah i was one of the people who was on back order although i got in early as was number 38 or there about  , i remember getting a weekly email with queue position and it arrived early October although that was rma after 2 weeks ( rattling fans ) and was back in the queue for another month:o

This time i am hoping to get an FE but imagine that will be a **** show for the 1st month or so

just over 1,000 back orders 3090 on day one thats after the ones in stock or had confirmed stock got sold.

OCUK had over 10,000 back orders (i think i counted 14,500 ish by June 2020) RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 around Jan 2020...it was the biggest demand ever...mostly driven by miners/resellers i would have thought.

Wasn't a great time at all , made 10 times worse by OC being spoon fed 10 gpu every 2 weeks by suppliers or at least that's what it felt like while waiting for the list to count down  Hopefully this launch goes a lot better as mining is no longer a thing , people are not stuck at home and the prices are already prescalped by Nvidia and its AIB partners

Yeah I will be amazed if whole stock will be sold on day1. FE might be another story though.

Already got my 7950X all set up in it, having a slightly different model of 4090 seems less annoying than rebuilding my entire system. Even the larger O11D Evo might struggle with those Zotac cards.
Slightly different mate, between a cigarrette case 7950 and a brick basically (seriously these things are big, really big, my 3090 is the size of a slim brick the 4090's a thick brick)

I expect they will all sell out on day one as the demand will be high even though people are complaining about price , once they actually go live fomo starts to kick in and cards then fly off shelf but what i don't expect is the ridiculous wait we had last time and think they will be restocked pretty soon as they will want to get as many sales as possible before amd release their cards. The FE will be the highest in demand i imagine and that will be based on price alone with it looking like the only one that will be msrp.

I don't have FOMO this time. I have FOBR. (Fear Of Buyer's Remorse)

It looks like performance will fall short of what Nvidia is implying with its marketing.

From what I've seen it looks like a 50%> uplift in native performance which is good enough for me and any more is a bonus... personally I'm not in a major rush for one but will try to secure an FE on release day but failing that happy to wait a month or 2 until they are in stock properly and will give me time to take in all the reviews but as said from what I've seen i am happy enough so far to go ahead and try get one at release :)

Same as me. Performance is more or less known, you dont need to see Nvidia marketing materials to figure out ballpark uplift.

You have to spend £1700+ to get that though, £1300 only buys you +15% and £900 buys you -10%
