You have to spend £1700+ to get that though, £1300 only buys you +15% and £900 buys you -10%
Once you sell your old card that becomes significantly less cost wise ... all in i expect that 50% to cost me £800-£1000 once the 3090 is sold :D but point taken the only real value upgrade is a 4090 unless you really really want dlss 3 which the 4080/4060ti can do

Unless you coming from a 1080 like me say?
Every gen upgrading is a fools game at the best of times.
What card are you planning to get ? While the 4080 12gb gets knocked for not being a proper 80 series for someone like yourself upgrading from a 1080 you will be getting a massive uplift in performance but unfortunately comes at a cost ... Performance wise looks to be like a stock 3090 which again will be at least twice as fast as a 1080 , i had a 1080Ti Strix before the 3090 and when i upgraded it was a x2 uplift across the board .

No way AMD is faster and lower power than a 4090, but doesn't want the public to know about it IMO.

Given how terrible the 4080 skus are it makes you wonder what the whole AMD line up is like if Nvidia felt that confident to be able to do that.

I placed my order at 13:57 :p
Funny enough i remember i started trying to log in at 13:55 but the website was already on its way down the toilet and wasn't able to actual get on till 14:01 although it wasn't quite as bad as the week earlier when it collapsed under the weight of everyone trying to get a £650 3080

Why not, it's over 50% performance per watt according to AMD so even at 300w it may only be 20% behind a 4090 but still well in front of a 4080 16gb at 320w, if they go for a 450w limit it could well be 20-30% faster.

Why wouldn't they tell people before everyone buys a 4090? Give people a reason to wait an extra month or whatever, rather than lose sales to Nvidia. What your saying isn't impossible of course, I just find it unlikely if the AMD marketing department isn't totally inept. Also why would Nvidia position the 4080 skus so high (regardless of 30 series inventory left) if they believed AMD would come with a better product in the same month.

I just think it's super unlikely. Too many factors going against common wisdom. If AMD have got a better product they are starting off on a poor footing and Nvida has grossly under estimated them.

At the moment thinking 4090, the step up from the 4080 looks too much compared to last time.
That and i see it as a 4 year card, part of my big upgrade, of course I'm hoping to see some real data before the 12th.
My current rig is record age for me as a main rig mainly due to the whole **** show around 3000 series and Covid shortages., but my Plex box will be getting one hell of a boost when its a 6700k with a 1080 ;) just have to try and rain in its power use and play with underclocking it abit.

They announced the date as the 3rd of November and told us it's going to be over a 50% performance per watt improvement. The leaks point to the cores increasing from 5120 for the 6900XT to 12288 for the 7900XT which is larger than the increase from the 3090 10496 > 4090 16384 so it could well be quite a bit faster in raster atleast.

Pound has been up and down like a yo-yo... was 1.14 earlier. AIB prices are going to be expensive and probably just short of 2k.
Yes but Gibbo indicated that MSRP was calculated at 1.14 so we are not that far away, much better than last week when it was 1.03 at its lowest.

If you go back 15 years or so then Nv or ATi/AMD would rush a product out to get it on the market and selling before the competition had released their superior product. They would do this when they knew they were going to be on the losing side of the race and wanted a cash grab before their sales fell through the floor.

This was mainly the case when one of them had a node advantage and you would all of a sudden get a 50% performance boost by being on the better node. This is not the case with this gen but the pricing and releases have the hallmark of a cash grab by Nv , sell as many cards as possible and make as much money as they can before the competition turns up

I find it hard to predict how RDNA3 will perform. The chiplet gpu design is the biggest single change in the way gpus are put together that I know of. It is certainly a bigger change than the introduction of shadows or pixel shaders because those effects were just added on the end of the render pathway. The chiplet design means the pathway has to be broken up entirely and I am not sure how well it will work or if their will be major teething problems.

Why have AMD not told anyone? Well they have released graphs showing 2x the powahhh 3x the fps but no one should take any notice of the marketing rubbinsh Nv or AMD release and it is all nonsense until it is tested by independent reviewers.
There is also the fact that AMD only have a limited amount of silicon that they have purchased from TSMC. If they believe they can sell all the chips they have ordered and make a good profit then why bother playing Nvs game. We saw with the original Ryzen release that AMD are prepared to release a very good product onto the market with no prior notice.

Last point. AMD do not really care about selling gpus to the PC market. Us buying their cards and keeping a certain market share helps them sell RDNA3/4 for the next PS and Xbox and with that comes guaranteed profits.

Except that Nvidia is not rushing anything, only 4090 is releasing before RDNA3 - rest will be sold after the RDNA3 presentation. My bet is 7900xt will be faster in raster but far worse in RT than 4090, so not really a competitor for this price point, as if you are paying 1500+ you want all the bells and whistles.

Why would you be concerned about the chiplets? They're only memory chips lmao, RDNA 3 is not a ryzen cpu, it doesn't have cores split across chiplets
