HI There I hope someone can help with this. I am having a problem booting into windows after my machnie posts.

These are new parts that I have just fitted I have unplugged everything part from the HD but still no luck.

It starts to load windows then BSOD and shuts itself down.

THis is the mobo: Gbyte AM2 GA M61P-S3

Any ideas?

Whats the BSOD it gives (assuming it doesn't reboot too quick to tell).

Also, what RAM do you have, and what is the default for the board? For example, my MOBO defaults RAM to 1.8v at stock, but my sticks are designed to need 2.1v, so at default won't actually boot to windows.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes unfortuantly the BSOD is too quick to catch, is there any way to slow it down?

This is the memory I am using Cors VS 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 4300

How do I tell what defaults they need to be set at?

Thanks again

Whats the full spec, and have you got the RAM at the right speed, thats pretty slow DDR2 :(

EDIT: is it 4200 or 5300, as 4300 doesn't exist ;) I was assuming 4200.

Whoops yes its cosair value select mem 4200 here is the part number : VS2GBKIT533D2

I know its not that good but the pc is not going to be that high spec just for browsing the web etc

RAM should be at 1.8v default, which most boards default to, so I doubt that is it.

Add 0.1v to CPU and RAM and if it dtill BSOD's then the problem lies elsewhere.

yep... right click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Start up and recovery settings. Then untick the box that says automatically restart. This will then leave the BSOD on the screen and then you can grab the STOP message.

Usually "inaccessible boot volume" no?

In which case, format and re-install. Might get away with loading recovery console and running fixmbr and fixboot.

The odd thing is I have tried it with Two diffenrt hard disks One with XP on it and the other with Vista.

Same problem, so I am guessing my problem is somewhere else.

I can't get it to boot from the cd now.

It just says press any key to boot from cd or dvd then gos to a screen saying that windows had problems starting last time and how would I like to start windows this time.

Any ideas?

Check your keyboard is still working ok,, e.g by pressing the del key to enter bios at the start

Is there a issue with having a dvd drive as a master and a HD as a slave?

I can boot from the cd drive if I disconnect the HD but that is not much good as I need both available.

I can see both the drives in the bios.

Is the HD that u r using as a slave the boot drive ,, if so then yes as far as i know the boot drive must be master.

with an IDE setup the Master should be plugged into the end of the IDE lead furthest from the motherboard ,,and the slave goes in the middle plug.

With jumpers set to suit.

To stop windows rebooting on a BSOD press F8 until it boot into the Windows Advanced Option Menu for safe mode etc.

Here you can select

'disable automatic restart on system failure' press enter then restart you pc. It should now stop on the BSOD, no video camera needed. :)

As for the cd not booting I have had problems before where it would boot into the bios but NOT from a cd. Eventually (after many cup of coffee) I realised it was the usb keyboard causing the problem, so I changed to ps2 and this solved this problem.
