BT announce first exchanges to get FTTC

Bolton will prob be in the 2nd wave.

When this starts happening will ISP's like O2, Be, Sky etc upgrade existing accounts to a faster down/up speed, or will they introduce new packages/pricing?

Woohoo! im on the list ( Failsworth- manchester )

In reality what will this mean anyway?

My line isnt the best, im with Zen on their 8mb product and usually synch at about 4 or 5 meg. I assume this means that any loss i was suffering due to the copper between the exchange and the street box is removed so in theory my line could be a little faster anyway?

But i suppose the main point is that i could switch provider to an ADSL2 service and get much faster speeds as my line is now only effected by noise from my house to the street box?

Not on the list :( Didn't think I would be :p
But I have just seen that my exchange updates to ADSL2+ Q2 2009 :) Bring on the speedz :p

No luck for us. Mind you, Be* just added us to their list, which is good, and means we'll probably have ADSL2+ soon.

Plus, I WAS going to swap from BT (service has been good, but just too expensive), to TalkTalk, because they quoted us 7Mb/s (whereas we're getting about 6), and for 1/3 of the price. When they sent us the letter though, it said we'd get 2Mb/s (surprise surprise). We cancelled that, but BT have offered to send us the new home hub (whoopee doo, I use my own anyway), a hub phone, and cut our costs down to £10 a month including phone rates, which beats TalkTalk, and the £40/month we were paying before.

Score.
