Are you in Whitchurch? According to theregister.co.uk they are enabling the Cardiff Empire exchange but the trial is being carried out in Whitchurch.

Plan Status: Trial from May to June (for early adopters) at Muswell HillI'm not on the list.. But I am on one of the Pilot exchanges.
Muswell Hill - London
I had forgotten it was coming so soon, surprised I have not heard anything.. I hope it is the whole of the exchange and not select addresses?
wow loads in the NE....NOT!
Haha I was thinking exactly that! Typical ain't it.
EDIT: In an ideal world it would be nice to think they'd sit down and go, "let's roll the first lot out to places with poor broadband at the moment". Not let's upgrade the people that are fast and make them faster. Why not sort out the slower people first, those that are stuck with 1-2Mb.
How do you know what exchange you're on?
IM guessing 2012 for sheffield exchanges to be upgraded, my line can only handle a maximum of 3meg.
As has been said before, BT is a private company that needs to make as much money as possible for its shareholders. VDSL won't come straight to a rural area because there's just no money in it. The number of people who would sign up would never balance the costs of installing it. It'll be the take-up of VDSL in densely-populated areas like London and Manchester which will fund the expansion to more rural areas. It just doesn't work the other way round.
This is just one of the disadvantages you have to cope with if you live in a less urbanised area.
I work for Openreach (BT) and I know for a fact that this is not true, as has been said the most profitable areas will be covered first and eventually this should lead to more rural areas being covered. If you live anywhere even semi-rural (like the town I live in!) then you're likely to be waiting years for FTTC to arrive in your area.and whats the betting that rural areas will get VDSL if it happens to have someone living there thats high up the ladder in BT ?
