BT Broadband Capping?

so far i have tried the following:

1) Changed Filters
2) Turn off / on the router
3) Forced a reset on the router and reinstalled software
4) Moved the router into each phone socket in the house
5) Changed the routing channel through the IP address
6) Done a full system scan
7) Made sure my bandwidth isnt being utilised by anyone else
8) Connected directly using the Ethernet cable
9) Called India for approximately 2 hours and 44mins.
10) Reported it as a fault
11) Used BT speed tester
12) Checked the status of the exchange (all green)

So, im at my wits ends. Its more a matter of principle now - i know a thing or two about stuff but im fresh out of ideas.

Is there any way i can force a resynchronization of my router?

thanks all

ah right - no, ive got the older sockets with the old BT symbol on them (The dotted T) - any other ideas mate?

There should still be one socket that the rest connect to.

Im with BT broadband...8M connection..and yes I get the same capping effect.

By all means complain about the traffic shaping, but do it in another thread - this thread has nothing to do with that and it's just confusing the issue.

1) Changed Filters
4) Moved the router into each phone socket in the house

Almost a good idea, but without knowing which socket is the master socket or having your sync rate, SNR margin and attenuation to compare, you've pretty much wasted your time.

2) Turn off / on the router

Depending how often you do it, that might make things worse.

3) Forced a reset on the router and reinstalled software
6) Done a full system scan
7) Made sure my bandwidth isnt being utilised by anyone else
8) Connected directly using the Ethernet cable

Won't do a thing.

5) Changed the routing channel through the IP address

You mean the wireless channel? Equally irrelevant.

11) Used BT speed tester
12) Checked the status of the exchange (all green)

Proves the IP profile's dropping, and the exchange (at the time the data was last updated) wasn't running outside BTw's performance guidelines. Not meaningful.

9) Called India for approximately 2 hours and 44mins.
10) Reported it as a fault

They should've gone through some useful diagnostics with you. It isn't going to magically fix it, but migrating to a decent ISP would mean you got support with a clue...

thanks tolein - ive just checked the BT 17070 line check (engineer facility isnt it?) and i did the noise check - historically, and since having wireless installed, the qulity of the phone line when making calls ahs been terrible - i was using a monitoring facility last night but i cant remember what it was or where i downloaded it to!! typical. It told me all the infirmation about the SNR stuff etc. Hang on, ill try and find it again.

Ok - sorry its a lot but i wanted you to see everything mate - anything look dubious?

just noticed this:

WHO IS DELLBOY????!

Your SNR margin is abnormally high, though that isn't a bad thing in itself - it'll just limit the speed you get. Odds are your connection going up and down's prompted BTw to increase the target SNR margin to improve stability.

You do have wireless encryption (WPA/WPA2) enabled, right?

how do i check? ive been into the router and clicked on securtiy - this is what i get:

IP Filter Settings Help
This page allows you to specify the IP packet filtering rules to prevent unsolicited access from the Internet or limit the Internet access for computers on your network.

This page allows you to configure basic features of your wireless network. You can enable or disable the wireless interface, hide the network from active scans, set the wireless network name (also known as SSID) and select the working channel.

IDEAS?

no sorry mate - cant find anything like that - im using a BT Voyager 2110 router and cant find any settings other than the security tab which tells me that IP filtering is enabled!

Change it to WPA with a long string of number and letters as the passphrase, then change your wireless card to use the same.

hahahahhahahahah this is HILLARIOS - its half past ten on a friday night and AChmed just called me to see if my connection was ok!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? what the hell?!!! Apparently they are turning interleaving off - so i said, 'that probably wont do anything though so can you think of anything else that might fix it?' and he said....... wait for it....

'interleaving will be turned off in 24hours - you will then get good speed sir yes?

so i said:

'no, you dont understand, interleaving wont fix the problem, is there anything wrong at the exchange?'

he said,

'Interleaving will be turned off, so wait 24 hours and please make sure you are plugged into the master socket.

i said,

'well i dont know which is the master socket becuase i have the older looking line boxes'

he said,

'interleaving will be turned off in 24 hours'

i said, grrrrrrrrrrrrr and hung up./

sorry Toien - can you walk me thorough that - im going to set it to WAP-psk for HOME/SOHO and then what?

It should ask for a passphrase. Type in something that's a mix of letters and numbers, and keep a note of it (in notepad or something).
When you save those settings, your wireless card should get kicked off. When you reconnect, it'll ask for a passphrase. Put in the one you've just set, and off you should go.

I think you should be able to get the full 8128kbps sync rate with those stats... I have 30db downstream and 15db upstream and I am connected at 8128kbps...
I'm not sure what would cause you to have such a high SNR and why you're sync isn't increasing any further - it must be a fault or something.

I can completely sympathize with what you are going through with BT technical support, they are hopeless. I just left BT and moved to Entanet, the support is MUCH better, as well as the speeds.
