BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I never got to try out G.fast but from what I can tell from those that have is its very ropey unless you have a near perfect short line.

Definitely should have skipped that and installed more FTTP as now its being overbuilt!

I live in an area that has a large deployment of it and now the entire area is being overbuilt with FTTP, bet its a similar story in other places.

After the initial install I had near perfect service. The rough install was likely to being the first person my installer had ever dealt with and BT’s total lack of ability to support the product at that point. Oh and I wasn’t on a short line.

I have had my 900/120 for over a month now, and best decision I made. loving the speeds and its been very stable.

I had one instance where early morning it dropped out for 5mins but other then that had solid speeds throughout.

Its definitely nice knowing you have way more headroom than you really need right now.

Its enabled me to remove all the speed limits I had applied to the kids devices to stop them sucking up all the available bw with console updates/games and media streaming :)

Had Hey Broadband running a fibre down our road today, I've never heard of them, anyone know if they're any good? Apparently I should be able to order in a month or two.

Here's what they were installing....

We're ducted and from what I understand the lead in to the house was done in the late 80s when BT were taking forever to get new connections in, so the duct may or may not be the grey stuff that you're meant to use. I'll dig it all out with my hands if it means I get FTTP, though.

 Seems to be a mix around here, some pole some ducted. All the new estates seem to be ducted. I'm planning to go for as fast as I can initially, just for bragging rights, and to average out all my years at 12Mbps ;)

We are ductted here as well, however absolutely spoiled for choice,

Just had BT full fiber installed less then 12 months ago, then VM used Openreach ducting to run there cables, and now city fiber are digging up as well...

Mines still showing as

"At the moment, we don't have any plans to upgrade your area to full fibre, but provide your contact details and we'll keep you up to date if things change - we add new locations into our build plan every three months."

Even though my exchange is on the new list.

The joys of upgrading to FTTP… Openreach have been delighted to discover that water and waste pipes have been laid right through their ducting which means they can’t lay the fibre to my house. They could dig down to fix this issue but at least one blockage is right in the middle of a neighbours lawn so it’s not going to happen any time soon.

A booster being fitted inside my house was mentioned by an engineer. Never got a chance to ask what he meant by that. Anyone know what he may have been talking about? Impression I got was that it was instead of FTTP.

Ignore it, most people laying fibre cables don't really know the technology they are dealing with.

There will be a wayleave in place for that ducting on your neighbour's property so they won't be able to stop Openreach from digging it up, though they can probably make their life difficult if they want.

My exchange was added in the recent update but I still get the same result with the checker. I hope the checker just isn’t up to date with the newest plans

Snap, have the same on my road now too (East London) I also got a flyer in the mail (seem's to be every home on the street) from Community https://communityfibre.co.uk/ , seems like a good deal unfortunately i am stuck with a super Plusnet deal for another year.
