Sounds like he's making that up.

Nope. My ONT is under the stairs, that's then plugged into a patch panel which then goes to the living room to the router, then back to the patch panel and then to the switch. All cat6 cable but cat5e would be fine as well.is it a specific Ethernet cable you have to have to connect the fibre modem to the Bt smart hub 2 router ?
As I want to move my bt router and thinking can I just buy a long Ethernet (cat6/7) cable
Thankyou,Nope. My ONT is under the stairs, that's then plugged into a patch panel which then goes to the living room to the router, then back to the patch panel and then to the switch. All cat6 cable but cat5e would be fine as well.
Stay under 100m lengths.Thankyou,
One last question or 2.
Does it matter if I get a flat Ethernet cable so I can tuck it around carpets ?
does it matter about how long the cable will be ?
(Regarding maybe lowering the speeds from modem to router) ?
So apart from staying under 100m, I’m ok in buying cat 6/7 normal or flat Ethernet cable and no drop in speeds from modem to router ?Stay under 100m lengths.
Hi,
We’re getting in touch to update you on our Ultrafast Full Fibre build. We’ve reviewed our build plans, and currently we can’t deliver Full Fibre to xxxx.
There are lots of reasons for why our plans change - from engineering hazards to access permits. We review our build plans regularly as circumstances change. We hope this is just a temporary setback and that we can bring xxxx back into our Full Fibre build plans in the future.
We'll keep you updated and let you know immediately if anything changes.
Yes, you don't need cat7 though. So apart from staying under 100m, I’m ok in buying cat 6/7 normal or flat Ethernet cable and no drop in speeds from modem to router ?
Did you have 2 engineer visits?Did find it a little strange... the update of the Hub I can understand, but the settling down
Did you have 2 engineer visits?
One to survey the property and then a second one at a later date for installation?
Thanks. How long was it from ordering to install date? 5 weeks? No, just the one on the day.
Less than that... I ordered it on the 7th March, installation 17th.Thanks. How long was it from ordering to install date? 5 weeks?
Very swift. ThanksLess than that... I ordered it on the 7th March, installation 17th.
Cat 7 isn't a real standard, and flat cables are rarely standard compliant. So apart from staying under 100m, I’m ok in buying cat 6/7 normal or flat Ethernet cable and no drop in speeds from modem to router ?
Sorry do you mean the flat Ethernet cable that I will be connecting might interrupt the flow between the modem to the router ?Cat 7 isn't a real standard, and flat cables are rarely standard compliant.
Stick to standard cat5e or cat6
If it's working then leave it be, but any problems chuck it out and replace with a normal round oneSorry do you mean the flat Ethernet cable that I will be connecting might interrupt the flow between the modem to the router ?
If you mean standard as (round ethernet cable) then I will probably have to buy one as I’ve only got the flat versions so I can tuck them under the carpet.
So annoyed It was scheduled for Dec 2026 and I’ve seen a few vans in the next village recently.
My area went live a month after I received the same email. Take it with a pinch of salt.
