BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

There were some engineers working at the green box at the bottom of my road so I thought I'd go and ask what they were up to as they've been working there for a few days, one of the engineers said they're doing some maintenance work as there will be upgrades soon but couldn't give me any further information.

I hope this means 80mb soon! :D
Hello.. what area are you in, you may be one of the first to see the upgrade. Unless they were just adding another card because I'm not aware of any cab work that needs doing prior to the 17a profile switch, could be connecting a few more fibers I suppose but there should already be plenty of capacity. Hmm interesting.

nice. hoping for first quarter of 2012!

Hopefully!

Hey, I'm in North West London, under the Cricklewood exchange. Well the engineer told me they're upgrading the service so I'm guessing it's the 80mb rollout preparations; they're still at that cabinet I saw them 30 minutes ago and have been there for a few days.

Pitty about FTTC is those area's that have FTTC wont get FTTP which will be upto 300mbps on role out of the up coming upgrades.

Pitty they are installing FTTP in places that already have 100meg cable...

280 odd meters for me:

Houses on the other side of the road go off to a cabinet almost a mile away unlucky for them..
:D

Hi,

Any idea how long it takes from cabinet power on to being able to place an order? Or is it completely random?

We're on CAB93 from the Farnborough, Hampshire exchange.

month download upload total
Oct 2011 77.88 GB 2.14 GB 80.02 GB
Sep 2011 645.63 GB 37.94 GB 683.57 GB

Mine is still going strong, once you actually get it installed it works great. So far the speed has been consistent and stable 24 hours a day. Whether it is worth £60 a month is another matter. But if you are ultra geek like me with no tv and no phone contract then it might be.

There seem to be a lot of BT vans around my way at the moment, with loads of new cabs turning up on the street. According to Zen I only have to wait another few weeks before I can subscript to it :D

is that a Google earth overlay or something you have made?

Does it show cabinets/houses for all areas

I definitely spoke to soon. Today my internet went off for a few hours for no apparent reason. Then i restarted the bt business hub router and it came back online. But it is downloading at 50kbyte.

BT service website http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/service_status

Says there is a problem. The internet light on my router is red.

did you reboot anything? I am on the Hornchurch exchange.

Looks like someone just flicked a switch at BT and put me in to the restricted bandwidth group. This is the unlimited that does not include weekends. Maybe it is confused and think it is a adsl 2mbit line. I think what is even more concerning is that the red light has now gone.

Rebooted everything, including router, VDSL modem and my switch. It just started working again all of a sudden.

Speeds are down on what they should be, this is peak time though. I'm on the 40GB cap package.

Call them on 0800 111 4567 if you have an issue. Doubt how much they can do, but make sure it's logged with them if you need to claim back any subscription costs in the future.

That is a disappointment. Seems it's hard to find a fast reliable ISP, who'd have thought! It was a major inconvenience for me today as well, had to use HSDPA.

I would definitely call back and wait. Just put your phone on speaker (if it has one) and wait it out whilst doing something else. Make sure you log the fault, it's very important. I learned the hard way about that one. The lines are 24/7/365.

My speed is terrible today, normally I can get 3Mb's during the day but right now its' down to 0.39 mb's and I live right near the Chelmsford primary exchange.

I called and walked to the shop, by the time i was walking back i got through. He said that there was a problem today so that is what caused it and that i should give it a few days to get back to normal speed. To where i asked how frequently is this going to happen and he said that it should not happen again as it was a fault. Well we will have to wait and see. He said that i should not need to reboot the routers. I am pretty annoyed.

What do you think about having to wait a few days "for it to get back to normal". Seems like a load of BS. I have never heard of a network connection that needs a few days to reach the normal speed. Usually if there is a slow speed it is because they are restricting it. I can expect more of these sorts of lies?
