BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

well the guy turned up about 15 mins ago, did a great job but the poor sod must have had a hard day cause he smelt like a sweaty armpit.

That said running around all day can do that to you.

BT man turned up at about midday, these are the results I got with my original V1 WRT54G linksys:

I subsequently found and configured an Allied Telesis iMG634WA (a complete PITA as its CLI only) and I ended up with:

Considering it was only predicted to give me 30Mbps, happy days! :D

Never an issue- just checked it's cos I got neither in my area till 30th of June ¬_¬ Which is retarded cos I literally live 260 metres from the exchange.

Distance from exchange has nothing to do with it.

BTW can either of you guys talk about the traffic shaping? Some people telling me they throttle p2p connections right down to 10KB/s at peak hours which I really cba to deal with.

You can avoid traffic shaping if you get FTTC from a better provider.

i just upgraded to infinity and olny get 8megs atm most not to happy really as i was getting 6 meg befor had it a week now as the guy that installed it say speed my be all over the place for a day or two

did it all on the phone guy reckoned i would get 26 meg. The guy who installed for me said most people get close to the speed they were told they would get. was never told a minimum speed if i stay at around 8 meg i will probs give them a ring.

I currently have my netgear router downstairs near the master socket and the I use a 8 port gigabit switch upstairs with everything plugged into.

Daft question will the gigabit switch work ok with the home hub?

Thanks

I have the HH3 plugged into my 1000mb switch and so far I'm actually pretty happy with the HH3. Ok it's designed for Joe public not us geeks but so far it works out of the box and has the options you need if you go to the advanced settings

I presume you're using the HH3 supplied? Are you on wired or wireless, and what is your connection speed?

just did the speed test report on the pc down stairs as its the olny one pluged in and that one is getting 28meg

my main pc i use is on wireless up stairs about 20ft away from hub and olny get 8 meg

tested laptop in living room and that gets 10meg so do you reckon i could be my wireless card? And yes i am using all the things bt supplied

seems to me like it my be my wierless stuff but going cable isent really an option if you can recomend a good wireless adapter i will give that a try

ARRRGGGHHHH

BT enabled it on the High Wycombe exchange, Samknows says it should be live in my area...

But they didn't do my road...

WEEEAAAKKK!!!

Two weeks ago I was at a local business to help with their change over to Infinity. They were originally on a connection of 6Mb-8Mb and now with infinity up and running, they are only connecting at 17Mb. Personally, I am disappointed especially when they had an adsl connection so high.

Apparently bt have been in touch with a friend whos road isnt getting infinity ( <15mbps) to say they will now offer it to him for £25 but only 15mbps.. Better than 6mbps

now connected infinity

hi all

am now super fast infinity and up to now well pleased

HH3 been dumped due to a lot of port forwarding issues BT tech even gave in
so am now using netgear wnr2000 and a no-ip account all ok
and now that FUP been scrapped am able to use my server to its full capasity 37.2 d/l and 7.95 up/l
i had a lot of trouble with help desk to start with but when i asked for cancellations it all changed and even had 14 quid credited to my account for all the inconvinance so at the moment am happy chappie

Does anyone know of a decent wireless card to get good speeds wirelessly? I get 37.5mbit wired, 16mbit wireless (PC, D-Link DWA-140), 22mbit wireless (Laptop, Intel 3945ABG).

Edit: Just tested it again on the D-Link DWA-140 wireless and got:
