 Are they all like that?

Guys don't be hating on lozzd and his £78 monthly 500gb capped 8 I.P address connection so the FBI have trouble finding him.

Haha :D

I like it, except if anything I'm easier to find because I have static IPs. D'oh :P

Infact, the whois for my netblock even has my name on it.

Well, my predicament is as follows:

I'm with Virgin on their mates rates package, so for phone, TV with Sky Sports etc and 50 Mbit I pay £70. I have massive issues with my broadband, so much that I cannot game or do much in the evening.

After a lot of complaining Virgin have said they will allow me to cancel. However, they have also said my connection will be 120Mbit in the Summer and it should be fixed. The thing is, I don't know how much they can cancel for me, be it broadband only or the whole lot, this is something I need to find out.

I can get Infinity installed for free and I can cancel it (and the phone line) with no charge within 14 days of the activation date. So I think I will find out the cancellation details from Virgin first and weigh up the options. Being able to "test drive" Infinity is a big bonus.

What is the bog standard router they give you like?

My infinity connection has been rock solid. As show in sig is what I get 24/7. The router is fine, never had NAT issues or anything in games.

Any one on Bath's Kingsmead exchange, there is going to be an upgrade to the speed in the next few weeks:D, just been told this by a person at Kelly, the firm doing the upgrades for Openreach.

Been having a few issues with the upload speed, currently only 36kb, instead of 10mb.
Got to have a new modem, etc tomorrow, apparently I'm not alone with the problem.

There is apparently a letter going out to people on the Kingsmead exchange who had Infinity installed before September 2011, in the coming weeks.

They supply a Homehub 3 which only has 1 Gigabit port (3 * 100/10 ports) and you can't even do basic stuff like allowing ICMP requests.

I guess if you just want to plug it in and browse the web it's fine but if you need any more advanced features it's a non-starter.

Ah, crap. I need Gigabit Ethernet to stream HD over my home LAN. I'd also like ICMP requests. Can I buy an off the shelf router and use it instead?

I dumped the home hub, & modem, & replaced it with a single box, a Draytek 2750N.
Yes, has to be a VDSL version I just ordered a Draytek 2850N, to replaced a Draytek 2750N which I killed.

It's what I use with Virgin. I need to confirm with them which aspect of the contract I can cancel and then decide. I'm fed up of waiting for them.

When is 100MB coming to Infinity and how can I check my area?
