BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Griff for the last 3 months since joining Infinity my pings have been spot on. As CP88 says the spikes on the graph are when downloading at full speed.

Eh?!?

I think you've either misread something I've posted or you've confused me with someone else.

I'd imagine Watford will be the same but with even lower minimum MS because it doesn't pass through the crappy ilford hop.

As for checking availability there was some document going around, I'll have a look for it or maybe someone else can post it here :)

@Tom84, You should unlock the modem and check the stats for yourself. Also have you tried another PC?

I did see that mentioned else where n00b question is it hard to do and is there any chance of bodging the whole thing?

It's simple enough to do and I've never heard of anyone killing their modem.

Yeah Chris, you will still need the Openreach modem, but you can use whatever PPPoE Router you want.

OK so I'm about to pull the trigger on an unlimited package infinity. Looking at virgin for the past 24 hours, lot's of people complaining.

Everything I've read has been positive so far, obviously you can't please the masses.

I'm fedup with Be and I've been there for 6 years. Recent outage this past week has really ticked me over to change. Paying 17.50 for 6mb down and 800kb up since I moved a year ago - no contract though, no limits etc..., terminate at any time.

TBH BT have always treated me well, so Anything I need to be immediately aware of before I sign up online? (I have trouble talking to CS, sometimes terrible accent and bad lines)

Me too :D

How did you get the TBB monitor to work mate ? I cant on my OR modem and HH3 :S

2850n should be here next week though :)

You can't do it on the HH3, I just purchased a cheapy WNR2000 and put DD-WRT on it running great now!

The only way I could do it previously was to bypass the HH3 plugging straight into the modem.

May pick up a 2850n myself soon, anyone know much about the dual WAN on it? could I just order another phone line + Infinity and it would work without BT having to do anything apart from fit the line?

Have you tried another PC or with a smart phone? My laptop never achieves anything better than 25mbps but my PC and tablet can both max my connection out at 39mbps.

The multiple WAN interfaces can be used either for WAN-Backup or load balancing.

Interesting, only machines available for me to try a speed test on are my two Macbooks, I'll give it a go with my iPhone/iPad and see if there's any difference

Im not up and running yet as the router is coming next week - a Draytek 2850n

There is a list of the suitable replacements a few oages back as i asked the same question :)

EDIT -Found it

There's only a few. The DrayTek Vigor 2750, Fritzbox 7390 and Billion 8200N are the only VDSL2 routers available in this country that I can think of off the top of my head.
and the Draytek 2850 series :)
