BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Not so much a question about Infinity but I have plugged in a WD mybook into the enthernet port on the BThomehub and when I try n send a file to it the speeds are horrendous!

Anyone else got a NAS plugged into theirs?

You know what.. Ignore this. It appears to be the drive. Its slow as """" directly connected to the computer too!

Nothing wrong with BT Infinity other than the peak time bit torrent traffic shapping.

If thats not an issue, then I can vouch for Infinity.

I torrent, but only the odd tv show, so really its not an issue, I can get stuff I want after 12am... only take mins to get large files so its not an issue, just a slight inconvinience.

I know am only getting around 13mb but am flipping over the moon. Was a bit of a pain getting the eng out to replace a few things but that was due to a really bad lighting storm that really did some damge to the whole area and they where very very bussy. They did come out on sunday at 8am after complaint was lodged

I'm about 7k from exchange and 1.3miles from green box Tho

We moved house 2 days ago and have gone from 30mb/8mb to 0/0  at new house. Roll on Monday when I get Infinty installed here again :)

You need a powerful machine to get the most out of infinity it seems.

My pc in sig is hitting 4.4MB/s from Nvidia download site, where as my P4 machine can ony get to 3.3MB/s

Depends on your hard drive, but it should be able to read 4.4 MB/s easily on the P4 rig

Ok, so here's my experience with ADSL24 so far....

The weekend according to ADSL24's website is off peak.

Yet whatever i do is counted towards my limit. I just downloaded a couple of games via Steam as its 'off peak' and wont count to my limit..

Next thing i know i get an email saying i am about to hit my limit.... Now i have 1gb to last me the rest of the month.....

Just spoke to customer service. Seems they/he doesn't have a clue. He didn't even know that the weekend was unlimited! He just said i have to "call back on Monday!"

So i'm not overly happy..... :(

Out of interest, do i have any options regarding the service? It was activated last Tuesday so it been less than a week.

Use TCP optimizer, will max out.

When I ran the speed test.net tester my pc in sig was gettig 37Mbps down, where as the P4 machine was only pulling 29mbps down.

Doesnt bother me, as its fast enough, it just got me worried when I saw the results on my p4 machine, that may be I had lost speed!

You have a 7 day cooling off period I think.

Did wonder that.....

Hmmmm, maybe i should go with BT, Any ideas how easy it would be to move from ADSL24 to BT? Would there be any downtime you think?

Do BT offer a static IP?

Mines static until I reboot the router, I can't comment on FTTC to FTTC migration, not seen it done.

first 3 months is free with bt also, I must have downloaded well over 200gig now in 10 days and not had a slap yet, I did have some slow speed when I first got connected which have been fine now.

You're tied into a 12 month contract with ADSL24 surely. How are you going to migrate to BT?
