BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Cooling off period?

BT Wholesale enforce a 12 month minimum contract for FTTC which the resellers obviously pass on to the end customer.

My guess is ADSL24 will tell you there is no cooling off period with this product/service.

Hmmm, well i shall see what they say tomorrow....

I dont want to leave, just this whole escapade, what with the support guys not even knowing when their off peak times are, and then telling me i will have to call back on Monday and so on ****** me off a bit....

When the engineer comes does he have to "install software on my pc"? Can't he just set it up, and then quickly test it with his laptop?

Nothing gets installed on your system, its literally a 10 min job of replacing routers and possibly a new master socket, nothing special

No software needed, just plug in ethernet cable into pc from the HH3 that's it. The engineer that installed mine offered to help me setup wireless but I knew how to do it so it wasn't a problem.

Oh right. The woman on the phone who read the script said that he'd install some software on my PC to "setup email accounts". Damned if hes doing that!

My upgrade to Option 2 should take effect sometime today, will be quite interesting. I wonder if my usage meter will say Unlimited by tomorrow morning or if I have to finish this billing cycle for it to change over.

Just got Aquiss FTTC installed. So far all is well, some speed tests showed some poor speeds of ~12mb earlier but I dont think they were accurate.

Just gona see what pingmonitor shows today, so far it looks better than my Virgin media connection but I was kinda expecting better. There is a bit of packet loss as well which Im not sure about, will need to monitor it today and maybe speak to them tomorrow about it.

The BT guy said the test showed 39.99 dl and 10mb upload, but so far the highest Ive had is about 36mb. And highest upload has been 6mb.

Gaming much improved though, pings are much more stable.

OT I know as this is the BT retail thread but... how did you decide between Aquiss & Eclipse & Zen?

For those people that are on the 2MB upload option, can you get over 15-17Mb?

I have been to a few businesses now helping them with the changeover to Infinity Business and it appears that no matter how close you are to the exchange, the connection fluctuates between 10-17Mb and the upload never crosses 1.8Mb.

Is there a connection restriction for those on the 2Mb upload? With the changeover to infinity, the internet speed seems to run no faster than the 6-7Mbit connection they had before.

So far, non of the businesses that have had Infinity installed are one bit impressed with it and wish they never got it.

From people's recommendations and also there is a datasheet someone over at the thinkbroadband forums made: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc...0SVlLcVlzQWZuVFE&hl=en&authkey=CNDi0Z8L#gid=0

Anyway Im having some problems with speeds, they are about 12mb download just now. Upload is still as good as its been. Getting some packet loss as well. Ive emailed them to see what they say.

Im now going to expect the worst really. It looks like I am living somewhere where any sort of internet connection I get has problems. With Cable, the speeds are awesome and always were near 50mb on a 50mb connection, but the latency and ping makes online gaming impossible in the evenings which is when I would want to play an online game. Outside of peak times, it was still terrible tbh.

ADSL is too slow, can only get about 4mb download.

ADSL MAX I tried once and the connection kept dropping every time you needed to use it i.e. to download a file, or to stream/play online.

And now FTTC, the pings are better than VM, but there is packet loss, and it looks like the speeds are fluctuating a lot.

You would think I live in the ******* country side or something but Im only about 2 miles away from the centre of Leicester City. Fed up TBH.

Lets see what Aquiss support people say...
