BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Daft Q, our exchange is almost ready for service. Now Sky have LLU stuff in there already offering 21CN. Does this mean they automatically have their equipment for FTTC? Or would it be whether Sky end up offering FTTC at this particular exchange?

I got my BT internet installed and activated pretty quick and 'was' working great.

Got quoted 60-80down and 20-20up however only ever had 55 down and 10 up. Still lets me stream and download without issues and no capping which I had with Virgin.

Only gripe I've got is someone at BT must have got bored as my services were all switched off 2 days ago for unknown reasons and will take til Tuesday to get them back on :S

Engineer left and managed the following:

Seeing as BT estimated up to 76Mbps, I don't know whether to be disappointed or not.

From a financial perspective, if I knew that's the speed I'd get I would have gone for the 40Mbps package and saved some money.

Impressed with BT this week.

Recent storms gave my house a battering and my infinity was all over the place, ended down at 15mbps and flaky as hell even after allowing a few days to settle.

Email fault raised on Tuesday, phone call 10 mins later confirming looking into it, phone call next day to confirm engineer required and would today be convenient. Text to confirm.

BT Engineer arrived today, new cable installed from house to pole, rerouted master socket downstairs from attic, reset profile & DLM, blanked off unused sockets and would not leave until he was fully satisfied all was working without errors.

Infinity now back to full strength, phone line no longer has noise and all is well with the world all within the space of 3 days from point of raising fault.

Top work BT :)

So seeing someone get estimated 76 and get 50, how accurate in general are they?

I know just estimates, but 76 and then getting 50 seems to be quite far out.

Is that common? or is it more likely to be far nearer the estimate for most?

I get 62.6-80 down and 20 up on impacted. So quite a big range, but I could live with the low end.

Seems a bit cheeky to use the clean (75-80) when ordering, if it's more likely to fall within the impacted range.

I got no idea where the fibre box is though. I've seen some around, but have no idea which one I'm connected to or even if there are more hiding that I've not seen (not gone looking for them specifically).

When moved house filled in form online but didn't realise I was locked in to 12 month contract again with Bt by doing this instead of the rolling 1 month contract I had at previous address.

Are you moving the telephone number or telephone number & broadband?

^^ Probably down to poor installed by engineer. Was he Openreach or Kellys or Quinns?

Me?

I don't have mine installed yet. Those estimates were from the bt checker (one that shows clean & impacted). Was just seeing how accurate they are in general.

I should have said, I don't know which cabinet I will be connected to, rather than, which one I'm connected to, my mistake :).
