BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Glad to hear it all working ok now. It proved me wrong that TPLink are very good router say overclockers staff as the firmware was sweet and the setup was very simply. They also say it more reliable for Fibre/Cable.

I have encountered one problem though.. slow torrents. Must be something in the settings I have missed but it's currently taking over an hour to download a 256mb video. If I do a speed test I get 40/10. So it's not the net that is slow.

BT don't (well not since they announced the new unmanaged plans a while back). I was torrenting yesterday at full line rate on mine :).

Not sure about PlusNet - I think there's that £5 extra Pro thing for unmanaged if you want.

Yes that is correct, Plusnet is traffic managed on p2p except if you willing to add on Pro for £5 a month to get full line speed on p2p. BT are no traffic managed on p2p on BT Infinity 2 & 3.

No throttling at all here on Zen. Also all the sites that were blocked with AOL/TalkTalk such as a well known pirate hangout are not blocked on Zen.

Finding my 50mbit to be a bit slow now, want 1gbit! Don't need it though.

Yeah it wasn't being shaped. Unless they started doing it today. I noticed at about 80% complete the torrent jumped to 500kb/s but still no where near the 4.2mb/s I am used to seeing. I'm not too bothered though if this is the tradeoff of having a totally stable connection. No drops since my first post so that's 1 day 3 hours so far.

I forgot something. I forgot to tick the box to add bt sport to sky when going through. Logging into my account, it shows order in progress and shows all the extras etc including bt sport, so I can activate it.

Just wondering, if I activate it, does it go live once the BB is installed and once the contract starts or do i get straight away. Thanks :).

Wi-fi access it says is straight away, soon as order is confirmed, but BT sport, says nothing.

So just got off the phone to BT as I missed the small print on the website that says when you move home you are locked into a new 12 month contract so can't move my phone line to broadband provider just yet but while on the line the bloke at BT tells me when my cabinet goes live I can only use BT infinity for the first 18 months. I won't be able to go with Zen ( current ADSL2+ provider ) until christmas 2015 assuming the cabinet gets upgraded in or around the holding date of 31/05/2014.

Is that correct. I'd take plusnet over BT if I can't go with zen

^^ any reason why u moving to BT from Plusnet?

I want to move to ZEN ideally. But apparently OFCOM said as the 'big 5' didn't get financially involved in the rollout BT can retain sole monopoly of service for the first 18 months once the cab goes FTTC.

That seems wrong to me but want to see if anyone else can confirm ?

Not true. Do you want to keep your phone number?

again Ideally yes.

When moved house filled in form online but didn't realise I was locked in to 12 month contract again with Bt by doing this instead of the rolling 1 month contract I had at previous address.

So unless I want to pay £80 to leave mid contract I have to wait until contract's up which;ll be some 10 months or so from now before I can move without being penalised
