BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

FON used to continue working unless you actually opted out.

Maybe they've become more proactive with their policing?

I'm still opted in, just wondered if there's an issue with not having a HomeHub connected.

I've connected my HH3 to my switch upstairs as an access point and will hopefully test it tomorrow.

Could I get some advice on which router to buy from OcUK to replace my HH3? I am traveling near the shop today so was planning to pop in to buy one. Thanks!

Bought a TPlink 44 quid router from here (OcUK) earlier. Chap behind the counter was very helpful. Always a pleasure going there.

Ping/speed hasn't changed but that's not why I bought it. The real test will be if my wifi connection is stable for more than 20 mins and so far so good.

You can't label all TPLink routers bad just because your brother had a bad experience. If that was the case nobody would buy anything as someone has had a bad experience with just about every single product on the market.

With networking compatibility is sometimes an issue and 2 products won't work well together.

I have a tplink pci-e wifi card in my machine. So I would hope they work well together. Net has been stable since my last post. Have been streaming iPlayer, idling in Wildstar, playing Hearthstone and talking on teamspeak, and not one problem (touch wood).

Well I had a BT engineer out earlier and the following happened:

Engineer decided to try a new pair back to the cabinet.
He inspected all of the copper at the cabinet and reported that everything was really new, perfect, etc.
During the initial install my master socket had been moved to upstairs. We reversed this, so the socket just inside the front door has been returned to master status. He then ran a data cable run (20m of cat5e equivalent) from the master socket to the computer room and terminated this in a new data socket.
I've lost faith in the HH5, so the white VDSL modem is attached to that data socket and of course I'm back to the HH3.
Finally my DLM was reset once more.
Within an hour I was at 76/16 which is more or less where I was before everything kicked off. So far I've seen no reboot of the HH3. Of course now just need to watch it over the next few days, but so far looking and feeling better.

My HH3 didn't have any issues, got upgraded to HH5 and that's working perfectly, I got the wireless dongle, that's abit crappy tho, but otherwise my HH5 has about 10 devices all connected to it by wireless and no problems

dsl disconnects

Hi All
Well had plusnet fibre broadband for a month or so now , when bt engineer came to fit modem he said we had a fault but i said i had no idea , never said anything about it after that ...well fitted modem and i had to fit my old router to it as had not received plusnet router .....tested aand all working fine ...then fitted hh5 that i had brand new .
Next day weather was really bad and hh5 rebooted a few times and noticed it had updated firmware over night ...since then had nothing but trouble , disconnects ...PPP errors , disconnects .
Tried running hh5 with openreach modem , still same ...unlocked modem to see stats ....dsl disconnects about 5 times a day ...but i find this happens more when raining .....tried an Asus DSL-N66U modem /router , still disconnects ....
BT came out yesterday and could not find a fault on line ...but it wasnt raining and there was no errors showing in modem (CRC errors) ...2 hours later it rained and the modem disconnected from dsl twice in 2 mins ....then after that i noticed loads of crc errors ( still raining) ...disconnects another 3 times since then but been fine today but its not raining again ...no crc errors .
Got BT coming out tomorrow again .....seems weather related to me .

Also found kept having PPP errors on my hh5 , now turned off the ptm1.301 connection in my openreach modem and not happened since or any other errors in hh5 ....probably have the errors come back when it rains lol

26hrs after the engineers visit and line holding at 76/17.
I've had one restart on the HH3 - around midnight last night, but otherwise looking better.
Of course I'll never know what fixed my issue - new pair from the cabinet, the data run from the master socket to the computer room or swapping the HH5 back to the HH3.
To be honest I don't care so long as it now holds!

well be nice to get a constant connection , not had one from day 1 , longest connection i have had is about a day ....
Also when first had it fitted i was told i should expect about 54mb download and 10 meg up ...i was getting around 65-71mb download and 17 upload.
It has been getting less and less and now down to 38mb down and 10 up .....week agao i was at 64 mb down and 17 up .

Still no DC since I installed the TPlink router. Starting to look like the HH3 was the culprit.

Glad to hear it all working ok now. It proved me wrong that TPLink are very good router say overclockers staff as the firmware was sweet and the setup was very simply. They also say it more reliable for Fibre/Cable.
