BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Very nice, I'd be more than happy with 500 mbps I think.

I'd have to fully upgrade my home network :S fairly short cable length from me to the cabinet (its about 80m away but I believe the cable length is closer to 120m) so would get fairly good speeds.

Hmm I can see the cab from my house (about 40m away), but a BT engineer told me the cable is around 600m to my house as it follows the road. So maybe a 300mbit link. . . Not sure I need that fast down. But the 100mbit+ upload would be nice!

That article update says it won't necessarily be through G Fast but through FTTP and with limitations as noted here.

As FTTC high speeds are for limited distances of up to 400 meters it creates a larger divide for the majority. Just as much work should be done to increase this distance and reach at least reach 1 miles within the next 2 years rather than go for headline figures. Every country is going all out for 1Gbps with the US having just rolled out trials of 1Gbps wifi. Everyone wants to be up their with South Korea and for a country our size it would work within a working and competitive market that is better regulated - without the light touch of Parliament right now having a look every now and then.

My area has gone from Enabled area(cabinet not live yet) > Accepting orders(Live) in the last 48 hours, But when i go to the website it says i still cant get it?

How long does it normally take for the BT website to update and as its the weekend would it just be best to wait a few more days or just give BT a call?

Bt need to stop messing around with all this trying to push speeds down copper.

We need to move over to FTTP, it will cover us for at least the next 10 years and won't have to deal with all this "up to" rubbish.

we also rely need to sort our upload out, most places offer a 1.1 connection, i would love 1gbps/1gbps:D

Good news that BT are extending the Vectoring Trials, hopefully we are getting nearer to a wider roll out.

My unfortunate guess is that BT will only update cabinets on a 'need to' basis, where the take up is a certain amount of lines for that cabinet to make vectoring a useful necessity.

I did see two engineers recently doing some work inside the fiber cabinet, they had lots of equipment that's for sure, so I'm hoping it might be that this cabinet is included in the extended vectoring trial. Definitely doesn't appear to have been a capacity issue (e.g. installing an additional line card) as the address checker on BT Wholesale's DSL checker still said FTTC was available.

I have a question about free BT sport.

I am coming up to 12months of infinity. To take free BT sports, you have to have either 12 months on contract or extend to 12 months. Once my 12 months is up, so I will only have 6 months left on contract, will BT sport automatically deactivate unless I extend to another 12 months on my BB? or do I have to take action? (extend myself to stop being charged or deactivate it if I don't want to extend to 12 months)

Thanks.

https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm

Not sure if anyone has ever posted the above in here but it's a cracking site to find out the current state of your local cabinets and exchanges and also shows you a rough location of where they are on a map!..... it works for me in my area anyway.

Enter a locality or postcode to lookup, click the relevant button, select all exchanges, then select all xx cabinets. It even tells you which cabinets/postcodes are earmarked/available for FTTP :)
