BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Hi guys,

I've been on Virgin for over 10 years now but i'm thinking of downgrading my broadband and tv packages to save some cash. Is there a way to find out how good the BT broadband is in my area?

According to the BT site i would be able to get a 72mb package but of course that doesn't mean i'll actually get those speeds if my area is really congested. I'm very lucky in that my 152mb Virgin runs at just about full speed at all times. I dont mind dropping to 72mb speeds but if it actually ended up being more like 40mb then i'd probably give it a miss.

Thanks

[Edit] I'm currently paying well over £120 p/m with Virgin for their super duper package and after speccing up what id want from BT it comes £72p/m.

Does anyone know if the Sky Sports 1 & 2 are HD? Also, the broadband says its fibre, does that mean i could still use my TP Link router that i use with Virgin?

Hi Guys,

We can confirm that our technical team have rolled out a fix to all affected Home Hub 5As, so your service should be back to normal. The fix is a configuration change to the current firmware 4.7.5.1.83.8.204. We apologise for this issue and thank you for your patience.

This thread will now be locked. If you are continuing to experience any issues with your broadband connection, it will be due to a problem with your own connection. Please could you start your own thread about the issue, so that the community and the mod team can look at your problem individually.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Sky Sports is not in HD on BT TV yet.

for the poster above - well I'd swap back to Virgin for broadband/TV tomorrow if I could rather than my current BT/Sky (we moved house, and new house is 1 street away from Virgin cable ...... :( )

Could you elaborate on why? I was actually going to phone Virgin today to cancel and then order BT.

Talking to someone I've come across on twitter, apparently he just called BT and they admitted its not resolved *Facepalm*

Some are saying on the community forum that it maybe trying to update but keeps having to start again if it drops out, so i'm gonna just leave the thing in the test socket and hope for the best -_-

I've had both FTTC and Virgin for extensive periods of time and FTTC winds hands down for me, regardless of headline download speeds.

I've been on virgin for years its been mostly fine. Only had to call an engineer once or twice and I never seem to notice speed drops (in downloading files at least).

If your having Infinity 2 issues enable all Wifi channels on the HH5 fixes it until BT update your firmware.

Its a shoddy BT HH5 firmware update which caused the issue in the first place

Also after enabling both wifi channels power down the HH5 then wait 30 secs power it back on & it will resync now leave it alone for about 10 days & DLM will gradually increase the speed again.

Run this BT speedtest once a day it reports back to BT if there are any other line issues.

I've now enabled all Wifi channels, currently my broadband is syncing up at:

Down Rate=71416000Kbps,
Up Rate=18997000Kbps;
SNR Margin Down=6.7dB, Up=7.6dB

I was getting almost full 80/20 before ( Data rate: 19999 / 79995), will it recover or should I call them?

Just to update my situation, Engi came out today, apparantly there was a fault in the cab, and now I have a stable line.......So far.

Currently synced at 34down 4 up.....Which I must stress is i'm still paying Infinity 2 money for not even infinity 1 speeds *Sigh* and if i'm correct this can take several weeks/months to go back to where it was originally right? which was pretty much 80/20

Back upto: 19000 / 74829

Still losing Layer3 connectivity though:

05:30:23, 02 Mar. (157273.910000) PPPoE is down after 2618 minutes uptime [Waiting for Underlying Connection (WAN Ethernet 2 - Down)]

BT are sending me a new HH5.

Typical BT billing, cancelled my Infinity 2 package but then un-cancelled well within the two week call off period. Noticed today, they still charged me the £30 fee for cancelling on the monthly bill.

Lengthy call on hold later, full refund. I often wonder how many times they get away with things like this.
