BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

A couple of weeks to years. many factors come into play! I waited nearly two years from exchange to cabinet. Might be worth checking out roadworks.org and search via postcode to see if any work is planned soon.

The cabinet and cables were in but still had to wait over 1.5 years for it all to be connected before I could order fibre.

Lucky.

The cabinet that would have served my workplace had been up just over a year.

Last month somebody decided to demolish it with a car.

Well after approx 8.5 days of uptime :(

06:12:26, 18 Mar. (755995.880000) PPPoE is down after 12597 minutes uptime [Waiting for Underlying Connection (WAN Ethernet 2 - Down)]
06:12:21, 18 Mar. (755990.680000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]

it's sync'd back up at nearly full 80/20 but I'm still a bit disappointed, thought it was solved.

Well, my local exchange was supposed to be March 2015, now it has been pushed back to the end of June. Here's hoping, because 8Mb/s down and basically nada upload is bloody useless.

Connected to Mintlaw exchange. They got it last month but no such joy for those of us a little further away. Peterhead and Fraserburgh both got it earlier last year so we're literally stuck in the middle out here. My village does have a school though so I'm hoping perhaps that accelerates their plans a bit.

I'm in New Deer, served by that exchange.

No sign of it happening yet! They keep pushing it back.

Well I had a nice surprise with BT yesterday.

My bill had crept up to £46/month for BT Infinity 2 and I noticed online that it could be had for £42/month

A quick phone call later and I've had my contract renewed for 12 months with the addition of BT TV (Youview) included too, for £40/month.

Woop!

Were you out of contract before you renewed?

is there a reason why i'm getting 34ms when I ping to bbc.co.uk? Think i had better ping back when I was on standard dsl connection, i'm seriously not impressed with BT, first this Home hub nonsense and even though my connection has been stable for a good while my speeds are not increasing, stuck on 50/7 on infinity 2 even though had 78/18 for the first week, and now rubbish ping.

Think I might complain and cancel my contract, had nothing but trouble so far.

I get 19 pinging the beeb, but I think I'm inbetween lag spikes.

My speeds etc are ok

But trying to play a game, and its all over the shop.

Speed is slowly creeping back up again, now on 52/8 Getting annoying now, its very very slowly increasing, Is there no way BT can't just reset my line so its back to what it was?

The only reason my line thought there was instability was because of some mess up in the Cab.

Ok, I should be grateful, 52 download is a lot better than 5 back when I had normal copper broadband but i'm paying for infinity 2, not infinity 0.5, and ping of 30-40 to bbc.co.uk

So we have been stuck on 1meg ADSL forever where I live, but finally BT have laid fibre down the track past my house and all up and down our road, meaning we will be getting FTTP at some point in the near future! :D (superfast surrey says, end of march but I'm not going to hold my breath)

Anyway, I can't really see much online about FTTP, theres a little bit about BTs Infinity 3 & 4 packages, but not much, and I think Zen are the only other provider of FTTP?

Does anyone else here have FTTP (not hyperopic etc) and could shed some light? Or if anyone else has any more information...

Cheers :)

Whats the best router to get to go with the white openreach modem box? Not bothered about an all in one, budgets about 100 quid?
